My Little Hiatus

By Mitch Berg

Christmas was hard this year.  Actually, the holiday was fine, other stuff intervened.  More, maybe, later.
I haven’t had a significant break from blogging in a couple of years.  And I don’t think I will now – but posting is going to be very light for the next day or two.

Alway hard to dive into that pool full of lemon juice and razor blades.
    Hope you recover soon, Troy.

Music has great healing properties. I suggest Sam Cooke’s “The Rhythm and the Blues” followed by Jerry Lee Lewis’ new CD “Last Man Standing.” Good luck in the new year.

Personally, for moments like these I always preferred Pink Floyd’s “Animals”. Not an album for happy times, but for when you’re dealing with the detritus of a relationship that album, a bottle of good wine, a big slug solitude, and a big mountaintop deep in the wilderness (not available in MN, sadly) are apropos. It’s even better if you have to bushwack to the mountaintop and can spend the weekend there alone staring at the scenery and your soul in solitude.

And I don’t know a man past 30 who doesn’t look back and honestly say he doesn’t owe a bunch of apologies to women in his past. It’s a sad fact of life.

Of course, it’s all better if you don’t get in these situations, but the old golf saying fits: “Never up, never in.” Nobody ever said life was gonna be easy, and ya ain’t getting out of it alive. The key is finding grace, forgiveness, and beauty in what we’re given, even at the expense of the humility that comes from needing to ask for forgiveness for all our trespasses.

    Heal and be well.
