Acorned

“Show me the cases of ACORN being convicted of fraud!”, the lefty demands upon any criticism of the “community organizing” group.

It’d help if the charges were actually investigated:

Milwaukee police officers sat on their hands for months last year instead of investigating possible voter fraud cases from the 2008 general election.

Must be just some hate-clogged “teabagger”, right?

It’s an incredible claim, but it’s coming from a credible source:

Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf, the Milwaukee County prosecutor responsible for overseeing campaign and election issues.

“Honestly, the Milwaukee Police Department largely ignored your double voter (and other) referrals received in January 2009 for the first six months of 2009,” Landgraf wrote in an e-mail to a city elections official on Jan. 26.

So ACORN is “innocent”.

In their defense, they’re out on the golf course looking for the real frauds.

  1. Shockingly enough, Wisconsin has a Republican AG and he is actively investigating this matter and has handed down indictments. Which of course makes this a partisan witch hunt. ‘Bout time they start hunting witches, especially in Milwaukee, which is a travel-size Chicago when it comes to corruption.

  2. Speaking of lack-of-prosectution. I see that an anti-RNC protester was sentenced this week. He attacked two police officers (although it was not real violent attack). His sentence? The three days in jail that he already had served. One year probation, but his record is erased if he stays out of trouble for one year.

You have to wonder, if this guy were an African-American from frogtown, if he would have gotten such a light sentence.

  3. I feel special, as if you have singled me out for attention twice now, since we were exchanging emails about this just recently.

There are cases of ACORN being convicted of voter REGISTRATION fraud, just not voter fraud – a topic you colleague Ed Morrissey addressed just recently, as well as the STrib. Five people in WI are in serious criminal trouble right now. Two are part time temp ACORN employees, in trouble – for voter REGISTRATION fraud, one is a felon who wasn’t supposed to vote – he’s already been sentenced, no connection to ACORN; and the remaining two are a husband and wife who voted both by absentee ballot AND in person – no ACORN connection.

Now, unless you want to make the claim that those three people completely STOLE an election (which would presuppose you had evidence of who they voted for – and you don’t), a numerical impossibility for three people / five votes, the right has failed to make the case for the inaccurate claims they use to fund raise.

For the record, I object to ACORN receiving funding until they conclusively prove they handle money differently than the cover up and embezzlement of funds from some years ago. I also hope they are forced to clean up their act with the duplicate registrations (the majority of the bad registrations) and the occasionally straight out faked ones.

I should have something new up on the right’s false accusations of conflict of interest on the part of the Brooklyn DA’s office. The very nice director of information is quite prompt in responding to inquiries, but I’m waiting on some additional information.

There are some interesting and unexpected tie-ins to Minnesota from the past, and some potentially interesting material to the tea party and others.

Stay warm and dry while biking Mitch!

  4. “…the right…” “…the right’s…”

DG, let me guess, part of THE Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, eh.

    Tinfoil, YOU wear it well.

  5. I didn’t use the word conspiracy KR, nor do I think there is one.

Only a shared ideology / position on the political spectrum driving the reaction to the Brooklyn DA’s investigation findings of no criminality.

What I found – and a big hug and thank you Mitch for comments which inspired me to collect the data in one place – is that there were a number of errors of fact in many of the right’s blog articles, which in turn prodduced the erroneous opinions.

  6. Do you have a link to the right’s blog, I haven’t come across that specific blog.

I’m sure it’s not as good as SitD or G.O.M. or SRS.

  7. DG,

You need to go read that link at Patterico. Seriously. You’ve been drinking tainted koolaid.

  8. Anyone whoa has any doubt that a big election can be turned by fraudulent voting should study the 2004 Washington State gubernatorial contest.
Over 1,000 illegally cast votes, election decided by 165.

  9. Terry, Washington state had some problems with how they wrote their election laws that created the difficulty. The problem was not established to be the result of anyone trying to hijack the elction, and it was not attributed to ACORN either.

I looked at the link on Patterico, read Ann Coulter, and a number of other blogs. Not impressed. Patterico has posted updates stating the same information I wrote here – ACORN was not indicted in the Wisconsin cases, two employees were – for voter registration fraund, not voter fraud, exactly as I indicated.

Rather than rehash the sources they covered, I went to the Director of Information for the Brooklyn DA (technically the Kings County District Attorney) to find answers to my questions. Nice guy, he responded personally, and astonishingly promptly. I went to a number of other primary sources as well to try to get the story correct….which is more than most of the blogs I’ve read, left or right have done,

  10. Minnesota’s irregular non-uniform recount standards certainly flipped the outcome. Hundreds of Minnesotans were disenfranchised; their vote didn’t count based on where they live. When the left wins they simply say “so what” and “big deal”. (as if it all unfolded per plan)

    ….

Dog Gone, would you be able to provide some actual in-depth commentary on Mr. D’s link instead of regurgitating your talking points?

  11. What bills have been introduced to reform Minnesota’s recount procedures, to fix the problems in the last election?

What K-Rod said, Disco Stoo. Reform might be forthcoming when those who benefit from blocking reform are no longer in a position to, well, block reform.

  12. So the republicans are just waiting? The minority party is allowed to introduce legislation. I hear they can tell the media when the majority party is blocking their legislation as well.

Both sides are wrong to not have addressed the inconsistencies in MN recount law. If a clear reform bill has been shot down by the DFL, I’ll say they were wrong to do so. If the republicans simply are leaving the problem so they have a campaign issue to complain about, I’ll say they are wrong too.
