The number of people in “white supremacist” groups dropped by an order of magnitude every generation from 1916 to 2016, from millions down into the single digit thousands.
News media: “Meh”.
Today:
News media: “It’s because they think they won“.
No matter how much you hate the media, it’s not enough.

I’m at a loss to figure out exactly what white supremacist groups have achieved in the past few decades. Maybe they’ve….provided job opportunities for FBI agents to surveil them? Given the rest of us opportunities to mock them?
Really, if you’re looking for people looking to re-impose things the KKK would have done–re-institute segregation, get a lot of minorities killed, and the like–you’ve got to look to the progressive left. But I won’t be holding my breath on the SPLC putting those groups on their list.
