Head Fake

Joe Doakes Como Park emails:

When’s the best time to attack? When the enemy isn’t looking.

Lesko Brandon is focused on Ukraine. Excellent opportunity for China to take Taiwan.

Thanks, Comrade B. Couldn’t have done it without you. Have another pudding cup. The check is in the mail.

I hear that Antony Blinken is already advising the Ukes on their surrender strategy.

Because Ukraine has sovereign borders, dontcha know? And sovereign borders are… well… sovereign! Have to defend sovereign borders half way across the world, because sovereign borders are sacred, impassable and immovable! Unless they are in the US of course.

Anyone for a game of dominos? Stocked up on your iodine pills?

The financial wargaming about how the ‘West’ would respond to an invasion of Taiwan would be fascinating. Its quite obvious Russia has been completley decimated by the sanctions put on them and the international isolation is enormous.

Could the same happen to China or would it be us who would actually suffer in such circumstances?

Russia has an economy that is smaller than California, whereas China’s economy is the second largest in the world. China’s production is vital to the global economy, while Russia’s is only important regionally, and then not vitally so.

I don’t know what would happen if China invaded Taiwan, but it would be a massive economic upheaval on a scale that would make the current economic upheaval look like nothing, at the very least. I think it would also be the official death knell for our current version of globalism, and would be the start of a true new global era, one that is much more frightening to contemplate.

I do think Taiwan needs to understand that its best strategy to not being taken over by China is to build up its own defense to make invading the island too much of a cost: the US can’t wantonly go to war with a nuclear state like China. China too needs to understand that it would have much more to lose if it were to invade Taiwan than it would gain in pride or prestige: the Chinese economy is unbalanced and relies on exports and unproductive investments. Hopefully the Ukraine situation has pointed out both of these points to both countries to help prevent conflict. That would be another silver lining if it were the case.
