Shot in the Dark

Inhuman

Saddled with a senile President and a party that’s divided but driven by its radical left, Democrats are reaching for one of the few weapons they have left: the appeal to ridicule.

Last year, it was Ted Cruz being (wrongly, I think) accused of abandoning Texas during the infamous ice storm (on a trip that had apparently planned for some while and, being a legislator rather than governor, he had no actual role to play. Democrats and Never-Trumpers got a few yuks out of that.

This year?

Big Left thought Ron DeSantis had “disappeared”.

The only thing that disappeared was, apparently, whatever sense of humanity Tide Pod Evita might have once claimed (emphasis added):

The governor reportedly accompanied his wife Casey to medical appointments for breast cancer on December 29 as critics claimed he had abandoned his post, DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw told Fox News….DeSantis spokespeople jumped to the governor’s defense after Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) suggested that the governor was “inextricably missing” [sic] and ignoring his responsibilities over the last couple of weeks. The congresswoman retorted with that comment on Twitter after she was criticized for visiting Miami Beach on a leisure trip on Friday.

“Inextricably missing?”

If Lauren Boebert had said that, it’d have made Stephen Colbert’s leg tingly for two weeks.

“Hasn’t Gov. DeSantis been inexplicably missing for like 2 weeks?” she shot back on Twitter in response to a tweet from Team DeSantis welcoming her to Florida after National Review published photos of her seated outside Doraku Sushi and Izakaya in Miami Beach Thursday afternoon, raising a cocktail in one and checking her phone in another.

Oh, yeah – speaking of leaving their district during a crisis

Conveniently, these same left wing morons forget that Pothole Pete Buttigieg was off for like two months on family leave, in the middle of a supply chain crisis. Apparently, the rigors of adoption were very stressful for him.

No one is even trying to explain Buttagieg’s appointment was supposed to be good for the American people. He has no relevant experience in transportation. He checks some boxes that are good, maybe, for the democrats, but he brought nothing to the table for the American people.
No one seemed to miss Buttagieg when he was out taking advantage of very generous federal benefits after just two months on the job. I bet Biden didn’t even know that he was absent.
Another unforced error by Team Biden.

I am 100% in favor of Tide Pod Evita and Pothole Pete not doing their jobs, for the record. It’s fun to point out where they go when they’re not doing their jobs, but the big, important thing is that they don’t try to do their jobs and hurt us all.

Cruz was gone for less than 24 hours. His family stayed but he caught the first plane back. Don’t let facts get in the way of the false narrative. False but accurate, dontchaknow?

DeSantis’ response to these idiots, was epic!

He quipped, “I guess I should have been at the beach in Delaware.”

First, and it’s just an aside, based on what evidence (I mean which report or some other evidentiary finding) have you concluded from 1100 miles away that Biden is senile? I’ve seen him in interviews, his misspeaks, has to correct his words, he even stammers (not associated with stuttering) – so I grant you that, but he’s far more sharp about facts and answers than his predecessor ever was. Further, that Trump was given a cognitive evaluation points to a suspicion that he’s slipping as, according to a couple of people I know who work in mental health, that test is not given casually.

Either way, Biden’s grasp of facts and ability to banter using full sentences dwarfs Trump’s.

What Ted Cruz did was laughably stupid.

DeSantis put himself in this position by claiming to be the “best and brightest” about Covid policy, and far smarter than the Feds. Yet, his state is suffering and he’s gone AWOL.

This post is an example of you being blind to your own words and conduct (by YOU I mean the GOP). DeSantis (and for that matter many other conservative governors) have said they know far better what works and what should be done, yet, factoring out the first couple of months of Covid in NY specifically, the facts belie that statement. Red states are doing more poorly than blue overall – they typically lead on case count per capita (yes there are outliers, let’s not be myopic), on deaths, and on hospitalizations and typically lag on vaccination rates – thus the higher death/hospitalization counts.

If you want to claim you know best, and then the facts turn against you, then you are expected to stand up and take your medicine. DeSantis isn’t man enough to do that, plain and simple.

Mamm, I happen to agree with you that Buttigieg isn’t qualified for that job. I’m not defending it but let’s also be clear, neither was Betsy DeVos, nor a WHOLE lot of folks Trump appointed, in fact his cabinet was just a lot of either industry insiders who had no eye toward doing the job right (corrupt) or who were woefully unqualified (Ivanka and Jarred come to mind, but there’s a lot of others, how about Bernie Kerrick, or maybe Matt Whitaker). So, while I thought this was just the Dems grooming Buttigieg for a national role, and it is, how do you explain DeVos, or Wilbur Ross, or Matt Whitaker or Bernie Kerick?

I think we all too often fall into this pattern of “I know I did but so did you” and it’s a terrible form of argument. I can sit and call each of you hypocrites and you can do the same. What I would ask is that we consider scale and breadth.

I think it’s pretty clear (to me) that Biden generally appointed folks who have relevant background. Not in all cases, but mostly. He didn’t appoint Jeff Sessions, a man with at best a questionable background, to AG, he didn’t try to appoint a lapdog to lead DoD at the end of his term so he could at least try to see if he could get the military to take his side in the election dispute. Wilbur Ross was as corrupt as a $3 bill, and yet there seems to have been no desire to question any of this. You want the Dems to question Buttigieg, fine, consider that done, but when do you expect you’ll question Kerrick, or the next time when he appoints Bill Cowher SecDef when (perhaps a GOP leader – someone else) is elected President.

The libs are blaming Youngkin for the big weather-related tie up on Intertate 95.
Youngkin won’t be sworn in until the 15th, The current governor of VA is Democrat Ralph Northam, who is MIA.
Even #nevertrumper and self-described “conservative” Jonah Goldberg tweeted: “If I was Glenn Youngkin I’d be flooding the zone to get this I-95 crap fixed. DC suburbs are vengeful about this kind of thing.”

I’ve not heard any major/material outlet blaming Younkin, where did you see that? Also, this is exhurbs of DC, conservative area by and large. It’s essentially Dumfries to Fredricksburg.

AOC believes Republicans staged an insurrection to storm the Capitol so they could rape her because she wouldn’t date them. Anybody seen my eyes? They rolled right out of my head.

Honey, nobody wants to date you, much less marry you, which is why you’re 32 and single while your cousins have nice men and have adorable kids. I mean come on, even Ilhan Omar found somebody (okay, true, on the third try, the politician who replaced the father of her children, who came after her brother, but still).

A spinster slamming a husband for being devoted to his wife is just . . . distasteful. Give it a rest.

I’ve got family that have progressed from early to mid-stage Alzheimers. Biden today reminds me of them five years ago. That’s why.

he’s far more sharp about facts and answers than his predecessor ever was.

Unless he bobbles the teleprompter. Kid you not, his staff feeds him facts off the screen . Sometimes he reads the stage directions (“Pause for applause”). They also pre-vet the questions he gets; Biden has slipped up and said as much from the podium several times. That allows the staff to write up the info.

And he STILL bobbles it often enough.

Further, that Trump was given a cognitive evaluation points to a suspicion that he’s slipping.

Trump? Who cares? He’s not the president, and never will be again.

DeSantis put himself in this position by claiming to be the “best and brightest” about Covid policy, and far smarter than the Feds. Yet, his state is suffering and he’s gone AWOL.

You apparently missed the lede, Pad: He was with his wife, at cancer treatment. The “AWOL” bit was filled in by morons like Joy Reid. The people that needed to know, knew. He was still doing his job.

This post is an example of you being blind to your own words and conduct (by YOU I mean the GOP). DeSantis (and for that matter many other conservative governors) have said they know far better what works and what should be done,

And, in every particular, been proven right at that.

factoring out the first couple of months of Covid in NY specifically, the facts belie that statement. Red states are doing more poorly than blue overall – they typically lead on case count per capita (yes there are outliers, let’s not be myopic), on deaths, and on hospitalizations and typically lag on vaccination rates – thus the higher death/hospitalization counts.

States have been bobbing up and down all over the place. . NY is jumping ahead yet again.

And let’s not forget – the red states kept their economies going. Florida has 4% unemployment: New York and New Jersey, closer to 9%. People outside the laptop class (which includes both of us) are actually able to survive in those red states.

I think we all too often fall into this pattern of “I know I did but so did you” and it’s a terrible form of argument. I can sit and call each of you hypocrites and you can do the same. What I would ask is that we consider scale and breadth.

    Well, yeah. Lets.

I think it’s pretty clear (to me) that Biden generally appointed folks who have relevant background.

And so did Trump. I’m not especially a Trump fan, but his cabinet was one of the best ever (until they one by one quit – and were generally replaced by equally capable people).

He didn’t appoint Jeff Sessions, a man with at best a questionable background,

Including destroying the Klan in the south in the seventies after a series of terrorist episodes. The left keeps ignoring that. Sessions was a rock star.

he didn’t try to appoint a lapdog to lead DoD

    Mattis? Lapdog?

    Do go on.

Mom Pete took off two months for maternity leave. That’s perfectly acceptable, of course, because women’s rights and stuff. But who ran the department while s/he was gone? There must be a deputy or a lieutenant or a chief of staff so things don’t completely collapse, right?

And so too with Governor DeSantis. He took a day of family sick leave to go to the doctor with a family member (his wife) same as millions of us do (with our kids). What’s wrong with that?

Ah, but he was out of the office! What if something had come up? I don’t know for certain, but I strongly suspect Florida has a deputy or lieutenant or chief of staff who can cover for him so things don’t competely collapse.

In Minnesota, of course, we never have this problem. Our Governor has this handy bit of hardware which he carries on his person. It enables him to unlimited communication – voice AND video – with pretty much anybody on the planet, instantly. Maybe Florida should look into this whole “cell phone” thing so their government doesn’t collapse every time the Governor takes a sick day? Just a suggestion.

Regarding those highly “qualified” nominees, it’s worth noting that Merrick Garland is doing his best to ignore Heller and MacDonald while refusing to prosecute straw buyers, and there’s another nominee who did “tree spiking” before going to the BLM. HHS Secretary Becerra is infamous for twisting the law to persecute his political opponents (e.g. O’Keefe persecution), Pothole Pete is infamous for having the worst roads in northern Indiana (which is saying something with “Michigan Trains” coming through Gary to I-94 on the way to Detroit), Granholm presided over the worst economy in MI in a generation (one that she contributed to mightily by incessant liberal policies), Homeland Security secretary Majorkas basically dismantled border security, something that was warned about in his confirmation hearings.

I’d like to have a little less of that “relevant background”, to put it mildly.

I diagnosed Biden as suffering from senile dementia. I’m qualified to do that because one of my diplomas has the word “Doctor” on it. And I can do it from a distance, same as those 70,000 petition-signers who diagnosed Trump’s mental health from afar, when he was in office. What’s the problem?

You know, Joe hits the nail on the head regarding things like legislators being out of the state or country during an emergency. Reality is that their first role is to make phone calls and emails to people they know in government, and they can do that from anywhere in the world. When people know the scope of the disaster and need funding, they generally can use a technology (invented just recently in 1903) called the “airplane” and fly back to the government center.

For that matter, even executives like the President and Governors have this same technology that will allow them to do their jobs from anywhere in the world. I think the technical term, therefore, for people who complain that someone is not in the same location as a natural disaster is “twit” or “nincompoop”. Yeah, Paddy, I’m talking about you.
