If you get your car jacked in Hennepin County?

The carjackers themselves will likely do less time than your vehicle.

The jackings seem to be increasing in violence.
Look for shops and malls in the inner suburbs to begin hiring private, armed security, seriously third world stuff.
And God help the security guard who shoots a criminal in Hennepin County.

Well, geez, why are people driving planet-killing-cars anyway? Why do you think we spent a billion dollars building the Ventura Choo-Choo? Sell your car and ride the train, morons!

I’d like to see an update on this story:
    https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/armed-carjackers-targeting-lyft-and-uber-drivers-in-minneapolis
Obviously Uber & Lyft drivers are a prime target. The jacker will get a clean, newer car with a full tank of gas and the drivers are forbidden to carry weapons, not even pepper spray.
Knock on effects would be fewer Uber/Lyft cars available, especially at night, as well as gender discrimination. You would be nuts to be a female Uber/Lyft driver anywhere in Hennepin or Ramsey county.

Indeed, MP. More from MN’s finest reporter:

Minneapolis video of a criminal trying to steal a vehicle around 5:30AM yesterday & then firing shots at the vehicle owner.

In the last week alone over Christmas, the city recorded it’s 94th homicide & there have been nearly 20 vehicle thefts & over a dozen carjackings…

…Including a handful of separate attempted auto thefts & and carjackings, reports of shots fired daily and individuals shot at, and robberies reported each day – some robbed at gunpoint including an 80-year old victim.

On Christmas alone, a person was robbed by a group armed w/ knives & bats, multiple thefts/attempts reported in Edina including a carjacking by knifepoint, hotrodders shooting, and someone in Uptown running red lights on Xmas Eve firing shots into the air via @CrimeWatchMpls

Yikes. 94 homicides indicates that MInneapolis is not becoming a cold Omaha after all. It’s becoming a cold (er) Gary, and those who advocate these big restraints on the police are starting to learn the same thing families in Gary, Detroit, and Chicago have learned over the past 30 years.

Specifically, you can have either effective policing that puts criminals in jail for small crimes, or you can watch with horror as those pickpockets and shoplifters progress to more serious crimes and end up spending a LOT of time in jail for those crimes, getting injured or killed by fellow criminals, or getting injured and killed in confrontations with the police or carry permit holders. Total police killings are less than ten percent of the number of murders nationwide, and I’d guess that unlawful police killings are outnumbered by murders by at least two orders of magnitude.

    Choose carefully.

And you will pay more “bail” your car out than the miscreants will.

Back in the olden days, the first line of defense for the community was “hue and cry” – i.e., a loud outcry and group pursuit of an offender. It still has its advantages; the carjack attempts in St. Louis Park and Edina were thwarted by bystanders (including someone with a CCW) coming to the aid of the victims. Given that the thugs today are often armed, wisdom is needed, but you can still use your own situational awareness to protect others. In one of the octogenarian attacks, another shopper noticed two guys scoping out shoppers in the store; she accompanied the woman to her car, but it wasn’t enough to stop the attack – still, obvious alertness and the willingness to alert others to suspicious behavior (at the risk of being called a “Karen”) can make attackers think twice and look for easier pickings. Btw, your own car’s “panic button” doesn’t have to be reserved for just you and your car; if you see a situation going down near you, sound the alarm.

Soo, so glad the undercurrent of white nationalism is alive and strong on ShotInTheDark..

By the way, the recommended sentence (from Keller Law Services)…

“Were You Charged with Carjacking in Minneapolis?
In Minnesota, carjacking is charged as a simple or aggravated robbery with a possible prison sentence of up to 10 years. If aggravating factors apply, the prison sentence can double.

Carjacking Convictions Come With Harsh Penalties
Under Minnesota law, motor vehicle theft is defined as taking or driving a vehicle without the consent of the vehicle’s owner or authorized agent. Vehicle theft also includes unauthorized use of a rental car and stealing fuel for a vehicle. If a person is convicted of motor vehicle theft in Minnesota, he or she can face fines up to $10,000 and a prison sentence up to five years.”

So, up to five years, seems longer than 6 weeks. Doubtless part of the issue is the time of year, and also, the fact that people are out sick much more than in the past, due in part to….your stupid resistance to getting vaccinated…. so, yes, thank you fright-wingers you are right that not getting vaccinated is your choice, but it does in fact have consequences, much like carjacking.

Crime is up, it started rising in 2020, in part due to Covid, haven’t seen any stories here taking any accountability for that surge during Trump’s term.. but again, never let a crisis go to waste, right? Also, crime is FAR from what it was from 1985-1995, you know that 10 year period where the Fright-Wing held the Presidency for 7 of 10 years? That period, yeah.

So, while I get that you are using some artistic license in your claim of a cars having a longer time impounded than the criminals will get in sentencing, it’s a. not true obviously b. panders to race baiting and c. panders to fears about crime when crime is far below what it was in the past. Cold comfort, but let’s keep things in some context and last d. fails to address the reasons which include in part some blame for the good ole’ (not very) tough on crime GOP. (to wit, you won’t punish ‘traitors’ (Mike Flynn) and insurrectionists).

Peevee excreted: “Soo, so glad the undercurrent of white nationalism is alive and strong on ShotInTheDark..”

lol…When you’re triggered by cold, hard indisputable facts, and your limited cognitive abilities fail to step up the the challenged….

Peevee squeezed out: “By the way, the recommended sentence (from Keller Law Services)…

    **********TRIGGER ALERT!!!*******************

“A mother was able to pull her toddler from her vehicle Tuesday morning before three teens stole it at gunpoint in St. Paul’s Crocus Hill neighborhood.

Authorities later arrested a 19-year-old man and a juvenile male in Minneapolis who were said to have a history of auto theft and car jackings, and a 17-year-old male near the University of Minnesota with a record of robbery and weapons arrests.”

Huh…so that means they were 7 and 9 years old last time they jacked a car, right Peevee? And they’ll be 30 when they get out this time, right Peevee?

Lol…you miserable, ignorant piece of shit. I really hope you get dragged out of your Subaru by a couple of 17 year old armed Somalis who don’t gaf.

    Paddywhacker,
So, if I dragged your worthless ass to a jail cell for being encouraged to enter a public building, put you in solitary confinement, didn’t charge you with a crime for almost a year nor let you talk to an attorney, kick your ass or allow my guards to do so on almost a daily basis to the point that you suffer trauma, hearing loss and blindness, would you consider that punishment? Once again jack weed, NONE of those people that have been charged, were charged with insurrection. If you weren’t such a left wing hack or used some critical thinking skills, you might question why the DemoCommie’s kangaroo court, which also violates congressional rules, don’t want to release thousands of hours of video. Also, you might ask questions about why, during the sham second impeachment, as soon as Jamie Raskin said they would issue subpoenas, Pelosi shut it down. Bottom line? You’re living in a glass house and you’re throwing rocks.

Yes, Paddy, we shouldn’t make any conclusions that crime didn’t turn up as COVID came to the country in late 2019, but it did turn up after the protests at the death of George Floyd. Obviously the culprit is COVID, because who doesn’t respond to the fear of a deadly disease by going and victimizing one’s neighbors, and thus risking getting the deadly disease?

I think there’s a wee little flaw in your logic there, friend.

Regarding punishing people from the January 6 riot, that’s been a rare bright spot in the FBI’s roster, really. Lots of responsible people are being punished, unlike the FBI’s work regarding Hilliary Clinton, the Mueller investigation’s use of fraudulent affidavits to investigate the Trump administration, the 2018 invasion of the Capitol and Supreme Court after Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation (ahem), and the Nassar case.

Huh. It’s like the FBI is interested in investigating crimes, at least as long as they’re committed by conservatives who can’t speak up and embarrass liberals. Also worth noting is that the FBI didn’t get going on investigating Epstein and Maxwell until journalists shamed them into it. It’s almost like they knew that such an investigation might embarrass, say, the “Clinton” family.

As far as I know, only one white person committed a carjacking in Minnesota this year: that idiot the cops shot in Burnsville last Spring.

If any other white person has been charged with carjacking in Minnesota this year, I missed it. Same with asians (they count as white nowadays, just ask Harvard). native americans and latinos, but perhaps I missed them as well. Can someone provide me with links to all those non-black crimes?

In fact, every news account of a Minnesota carjacking in 2021 leads me to conclude they were committed by persons of the race formerly called negro. But pointing out that fact gets you called “racist.”

Facts are racist? The truth is racist?

A great Man once said, “You will know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free.” Turns out He was just a white supremacist hater spreading race baiting to keep Blacks in chains. Who knew?

jdm, I was being serious, as it was an example of what the FBI could do when they’re motivated. They quickly interviewed people, convened a grand jury, got subpoenas, and arrested. The big flaw with the investigation is within the DOJ, where prosecutors are insisting that people be held without clear evidence of flight risk and such.

  18. bikebubba Avatar
    bikebubba

In contrast, you see the slow-walking of the IRS investigation, the absolute failure to investigate in fast & furious, the failure to issue even a single subpoena in the Hilliary Clinton server case or the Nassar case, the absolute failure to prosecute straw purchasers around Chicago, the failure to prosecute Mueller staffers who lied to the FISA court to harass Trump associatess, and the like.

It’s a shame you’re only offended by the technicalities and not the persecution. Oh, well, at least you understand that the DOJ et al doesn’t prosecute Democrats. That’s something.

Long Strib article about the increase in car jacking in the metro:
    https://www.startribune.com/carjackings-sweep-through-twin-cities-communities/600131862/?refresh=true
There is some decent info in there, but as usual it leads crime experts and reporters to the wrong conclusion. For example, they write about “teens” committing these car jackings, as though it is some aspect of youthful hijinx and inexperience.
Data shows that people 14 and under commit few crimes of any kind, including violent crimes, but it begins to spike at age 15: https://www.startribune.com/carjackings-sweep-through-twin-cities-communities/600131862/?refresh=true

People 15-20 years old commit about a third of all motor vehicle thefts. Those numbers are in line with other violent crimes, like assault and murder.
