Translating “Economic Meltdown” Into The “Urban Progressive” Dialect Of English

Maybe now some of the “Shut it all down until there’s a vaccine and 50,000 tests a day” crowd will pay attention.

Trendy Warehouse District restaurant “The Bachelor Farmer” – run by Mark Dayton’s sons – is one of those places a big swathe of MInnesota’s non-profit/indurial complex was hoping to have dinner in a couple of years when the Governor lifts his “shelter in place plan”.

But no more. “Bachelor Farmer” is pining for the fjords:

It’s almost like God is providing an interpreter service for government union employees, non-profiteers and other urban progressives who feel they can ride out two years worth of shutdown: “Vape shop”, “Hair Salon” or “Small family store” goes in.

“Trendy warehouse district fine dining” comes out.

They might understand yet.

  1. Lincoln’s primary concern was preservation of the Union, Trump’s primary goal is to get reelected by dividing the country. Two very dissimilar men and presidents.

  2. I want to see the double-blind peer-reviewed scientific study that says wearing a bank-robber bandana over my mouth while standing outside in the wind, waiting in line to enter Menard’s, lowers my risk of dying of Covid-19.

I always want to see studies like that – REPLICATED – because they are not worth sh*t until someone else can replicate the results.

Still keep in mind that the masks work in both directions. They clearly adsorb large particles and slow down the trajectory of anything exhaled.

I would prefer to look at large group studies, rather than a focused group. Can we say something about populations who wear them versus those who don’t? Can we say something about enough groups who do and don’t to eliminate other variables.

  3. Did a bit of thinking on face masks, and it occurred to me that probably the primary way they help is by preventing you from sticking your fingers in your mouth or nose. At least until a contagion is aerosolized and can get around the mask, and you need an N95 or such. So if you can train yourself not to pick your nose and rub your face, and you’re not around people hacking up a lung, I’d guess you’d not have too many benefits from a face mask.

Now proving that in a study would likely be difficult, but just a mental exercise….

  4. Another thought; looking at the reviews–the menu for “Bachelor Farmer” has of course disappeared–it strikes me that I don’t know that there was anything terribly special about the menu.
