High Time

Democrats sold Obamacare is a revenue-neutral measure. The way they justified that lie was to have the federal government take over student loans so the government would get the interest money and not those greedy corporations.
Elizabeth Warren wants to forgive student loan debt. But that means no interest payments. Which means no money to pay for ObamaCare, which means thousands of poor children will go without vaccinations, or else we’ll have to steal money from Social Security to pay for healthcare and Grandma will be stuck eating dog food.
Trump should be hammering it right now. Democrats set this in motion. It was part of the deal. Now they’re pulling the legs out from under it, so who’s going to suffer? Students? Infants? Grandma?
Pit one group against the other. Divided they fall.

It’d be fun to see .it done to the other side for a while.

  1. This is all really quite a target rich environment. I mean, for example, Obamacare passed with no Rethuglican votes, it was 100% the invention of the Democrats, implemented as they wanted, and still exists. And yet, here we are in the ramp up to the 2020 campaign advocating for government health care, again, now termed Medicare for All. As if Obamacare and the Democrats’ culpability in its existence never happened.

Not just that, jdm, but when the Dems sought to “fix” Obamacare, they kept looking to the GOP in Congress to provide the fix. They don’t seem to like to consider the idea that it was a bad idea from the start and tear it down, probably because they’d lose political face with the math- and logic-challenged electorate who want to perpetuate it, as well as the independents who might question the mental caliber of a group that can so screw up a government takeover of one-sixth of the economy.

The notion of companies collectively bargaining on behalf of patients to “control” health-care costs was a concept origination by Dems in the 70s if I recall. We have the late Ted Kennedy to partly thank for the origination of the mess.

I used to get excited when I heard the term “single-payer” bandied around, until I realized that the closet socialists using it aren’t meaning for the payer to be the one who received the health-care in the first place…

  3. So true, Ian. I’ve actually encountered that very argument that the GOP should fix Obamacare with someone I know. So I asked why it is that the Rethuglicans have to be the adults and put the toys away, clean things up…

I like that “single payer” line.
