Schumer’s comments remind me of the late Roman Hruska’s (R-NE, sadly) comment that mediocre people deserve representation on the bench as well. He’s immortalized in the great song “Dead Puppies” for that reason.
And of course, thanks to former President Obama, mediocre people have plenty of representation on the federal bench already. It’s qualified, thinking people that need more representation now.

The problem with the statement “race is a cultural construct” is that everything* is a social construct, including the truth of the statement “race is a social construct.”
*Including death. There are cultures where it is the norm to believe that the dead are tangibly still with us.
If I am footnoting my comments, it is time to step away from the keyboard.
