  1. Didn’t there used to be this concept called “plagiarism” that journalists used to avoid? That if you were caught doing it, you’d be blacklisted?

  2. It’s all like sheet music to the modern journalist. Tells them when to sing, when to rest, what to sing and how intensely to sing. Hollywood and the nets provide the instrumentation. It’s really a 21st-century Hallelujah Chorus of dishonesty.

  3. Given the shitty reporting by right wing media like Breitbart and Gateway Pundit, or Fucked News, I don’t think any of you have a leg to stand on in this criticism, much less any moral high ground. There is a good reason the right wing media gets no credit or awards from real journalism sources.
You still believe that Hillary started birtherism, when she clearly did not – it was Andy Martin, currently running this year as a Republican presidential candidate after failing to win a bid for congress in New Hampshire. (Look it up.)
A press release is news, and I would think both bikebubba and stinky would understand that; also that it is not plagiarism, unless like Melanoma Trump, you fail to give credit where appropriate to the source — which doesn’t appear to be the case here.
You lot confuse disliking the content of the news because it doesn’t stroke you bias as being bad news coverage.
Too bad you’ve gotten so accustomed to your propaganda that you no longer know what is real from what is right wing crap.

  4. DG,

So – all opinion, stated with a level of vulgarity that really isn’t welcome, and arrogance that is merely comic relief around these parts.

    Same as it ever was.

    Zzzzzzzzz.

  5. In re Doggy: cornfield

The debates are going to be between Trump and the “moderators”. Hills is just gonna sit back and grin.

PS Dog, you are the only commenter to use vulgarity. Such high standards you have /sarc

  6. Kinlaw,

Swiftee uncorks the occasional naughty. Although he’s pretty restrained here.

The difference is that Swiftee doesn’t hide behind anonymity. Far far from it.

  7. DG-“Given the shitty reporting by Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, ..” Any proof of that assertion, DG?

  8. The logical fallacies of Mad Dog at a glance: ad hominem, tu quoque…..

And since you name me, Mad Dog, I’ll work to educate you, if indeed you will be educated. Real journalists do not reprint press releases as stories, nor do they “conveniently” write an article that parallels the text of a press release from a candidate at a “convenient” time. The perception of independence is important.

And yes, these articles are darned close to plagiarism. In journalism, you name your sources, and the source here is pretty obvious.

  9. So what is journalism? Let’s ask the American Press Institute!
    What is journalism?

Journalism is the activity of gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting news and information. It is also the product of these activities.

Journalism can be distinguished from other activities and products by certain identifiable characteristics and practices. These elements not only separate journalism from other forms of communication, they are what make it indispensable to democratic societies. History reveals that the more democratic a society, the more news and information it tends to have.

Unfortunately, when you get into what API says are the elements of journalism, you have problems.

Journalism’s first obligation is to the truth

“What is truth?” Pilate asked, and the crowd gave no answer, but demanded that Barrabas, the thief, be set free.

Its first loyalty is to citizens

    Screw you, non-citizens!

Its essence is a discipline of verification

There goes about 90% of what people pay journalists to do . . .

Its practitioners must maintain an independence from those they cover

The revolving door between ‘journalism’ and political employment is notorious, especially when Democrats hold public office.

It must serve as an independent monitor of power

See above. The WaPo is really bad. It has hired Democrat party activists to report on Bill Clinton’s sex scandals, for example. Breitbart would never do that.

It must provide a forum for public criticism and compromise

A lot of newspapers have disabled their online comment section.

It must strive to keep the significant interesting and relevant

But they bury it in the dross of the insignificant and uninteresting.

Its practitioners must be allowed to exercise their personal conscience

What a bunch of namby-pamby nonsense! Here is where they stop being workers and become bourgeois. This is where the middle classes give themselves moral agency, but deny it to the working classes.

Citizens, too, have rights and responsibilities when it comes to the news

Again with the ‘citizens’ nonsense! Who and Whom? Since we are all equal citizens, who are these self-appointed ‘journalists’ to tell me that I must be responsible for following whatever half-witted notions form in their heads?

  10. Missed this thread yesterday due to technical difficulties (sucks when work internet is slow …….) Really miss the days when DG was banned. Cannot imagine coming back after being ‘whited out’ for lack of engagement and then throwing down some crap like this complete with more condescension, bad language & general nastiness …….

Nice first comment to get the discussion going DG; hope you will drop a second genius bomb on us soon
