Thorley Winston, in another thread, asks:

Mitch, could we get a “24″ thread?

Dammit, I’m in the middle of an issue containment problem, and I have to sync my content manager!  I’ll need at least two minutes.

Dammit!

You may comment on 24 when ready.

Random thoughts on last night’s episode:

Philip Bauer: I figured he would turn out to be the villain during the opening scene where he started to mind-frack Jack with the “I did it all for you.” Note to self: bad guys related to the hero almost always try to rationalize their evil deeds by saying they “did it for you.” By the exasperated look on Jack’s face I wonder if he figured it out and was trying to decide how much rope to give his dad before pulling the noose.

Tom Lennox: is this guy awesome or what? It’s nice to know that someone in the Palmer administration has a pair.
Karen Hayes: still hate her. Since Bill is actually sort of competent, is there any possible reason to have her at CTU except to reveal the reasons behind her resignation?

Morris O’Brien: okay so the guys a computer whiz and knows how to build a nuclear trigger but he was selling women’s shoes????

Milo: was absolutely right. There was no good reason to tell Morris that his brother was in the hospital if you wanted to keep him at his work station. You’d think with all the experience Chloe has with lying to protect people she would have known better.

Chloe: still convinced that she’s going to turn out to be the traitor. For all we know she made up the message to lure Morris away just in time for McCarthy to ambush him.

McCarthy: does anyone else think there’s going to be a reveal in next week’s two hour (yay!) episode that he and Morris had a prior relationship (not that kind). What are the odds that an Irish terrorist captures an Irish scientist in 24 without them knowing each other?

Wayne Palmer: I’ll say it again, I miss Charles Logan. The sanctimonious “if I suspend habeus corpus and detain people it will be an abuse of executive power.” Whatever. Listen you putz, you’ve been sitting on your hands when (at least) 12,900 Americans have just been murdered by terrorists including with a fracking nuclear bomb!! BTW: why go to the trouble of calling a cabinet meeting if all you’re going to do is lecture them about how it is that you’re still not going to do a thing?

Vice President Noah Daniels: Nice to see some talent from Deadwood (favorite show on HBO) on the series. From his brief conversation with Tom, it looks like he’s going to take matters into his own hands soon. If we’re lucky we’ll find out Mr. Wu works for the PRC and Wayne Palmer has a date with the pigs.

Speaking of pigs: Piglet is dead but revealed that he ordered the hit on David, Tony, and Michelle while framing Jack for it. Judging by his final conversation, dear old Dad at least knew about it (or gave the order). Hopefully we’ll find out the why soon.

Jack: Best. Interrogation. Ever. It’s nice to see two brothers talking.

What do you think Jack Bauer would do to a President who allowed this to happen:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — A man sentenced to death in Kuwait for the 1983 bombings of the U.S. and French embassies now sits in Iraq’s parliament as a member of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s ruling coalition, according to U.S. military intelligence.

  4. Yossarian Says:

I don’t know, Rick, what should al-Maliki do?

  5. Kermit Says:

What do you think Jack Bauer would do to a threadjacking troll?

  6. RickDFL Says:

So you are OK with the American government giving the lives of our troops, billions of tax dollars, lots of weapons, and military training to a foreign government that includes an indicted terrorist?

  7. LearnedFoot Says:

    Drop your inane left-wing tropes!

I said, DROP YOUR INANE TROPES NOW!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Mitch Says:

    Rick,

Bauer, being a fictional character, would find his way (guided by his writer – Joel Surnow in real life, but on this blog that would be me) back to the source of the conspiracy – Rick, the DFLer, who behind his concealed front as a bogger-down of topics was really behind the attack.

Then he’d get the truth out of you. Oh, lordy, would he.

  9. Yossarian Says:

Not so much that there, Rick, as it is about commenting on an entirely different topic. It’s like when Fulcrum came crashing in here months ago to breathlessly comment about Libby-gate in a comment thread totally unrelated to anything about Libby-gate. In other words, pick your forums better. Otherwise you just come across as a raving nutjob who can’t think of anything other than politics. That, and it’s just plain rude.

  10. Fulcrum Says:

Good to see you guys called out Colleen when she did the same thing, oh wait, you didn’t….hypocrites.

  11. Yossarian Says:

Oh, NO! I’m a hypocrite! Whatever shall I do?

  12. flash Says:

Best episode since the premier. Wasn’t surprised to see Jack’s daddyoh come out for who he really is.

Obviously some inside baseball on the David Palmer assassination for those of us watching their first season.

I had Morris pegged for a bad guy since the beginning. Now, i realize he isn’t a bad guy yet, but he looks like he may be forced to be one.

I am looking forward to next weeks double shot.

Obviously register for the republican party.

  14. Yossarian Says:

As opposed to lengthy whining and off-topic jackassery; in which case, you should be a registered Democrat.

    Fulcrum and Rick,

Start your own blog. Call it “Ice Cream Cones and Utilitarianism” – two terms that have nothing to do with each other. It’d be in character with, it’d seem, Ricks’ written output.

I have to disagree with Lileks; I’m kinda liking how, in the aftermath of the nuke, the series is getting a little more subdued, a little more whodunnit. Of course, last week showed they need some practice at it.

I’m also blocking off all of next Monday night.

  17. Kermit Says:

I think Fulcrum has the hots for Chloe.

Flash, the mole in CTU is Chloes supervisor. I forget his name, but he looks like an a-rab to me.

sorry about the moderated triple-post. You must have changed IP addresses or something.

the WP comment engine sucks – but my spam comment count after three months is 0, which is about 70,000 less than I had in MT…
