This’ll Change Everything
By Mitch Berg
Bin Laden sounds off on Gaza…
Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden has issued a new audiotape urging Muslims to launch a jihad, or holy war, to stop the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Because Muslims have taken it so easy on Israel so far.

Shame he’s not dead. On the plus side, Bush still has a week to “smoke him out.”
January 14th, 2009 at 11:50 am
Unfortunately, you didn’t speak to the reason why he said this would be more likely to be successful..
Here, let me help with that..
In short, Bush’s deficit policies, his overstretch on military adventurism (Iraq), and his destruction of our national reputation have..
here it is
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123189377673479433.html
HURT THE US’ POWER AND DOMINANCE.
I.e. what has been said by liberals (and moderates) to you neo-cons for 6 years now (nearly) – a fact you denied, claiming that setting up democracy would help us – but more than that, that we had plenty of money and guns to do it all. You were wrong – Get it?
By the way – this outcome is PRECISELY what Obama predicted when he encouoraged us to get involved in Iraq – and why he endorsed John McCain – because he knew the US was MORE likely to engage in military adventurism under McCain – adventurism which we couldn’t afford, and had illigitimate authority to commence (i.e. Iraq – as there in fact WERE no WMD and our impatience at the outset was in opposition to world opinion and as we now know, reality).
Oh, and then there’s this:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/14/politics/washingtonpost/main4720784.shtml?tag=topStory;topStoryHeadline
You know, the ‘smoking gun’ thing – the whole thing about how ‘enhanced interrogation’ isn’t torture, and there wasn’t a pattern of misconduct that might have stemmed from Gonzalez’ torture memorandum?
Again – you were WRONG – we tortued people – people who did the torturing felt empowered by the President’s (and you neo-con’s) blaise’ attitude that ‘well, if you gotta break some eggs to get an omellette, then break some eggs’ despite the fact that it was in opposition to treaties we’ve signed, and despite the fact that it harmed our national will AND national reputation –
In short, you’ve seriously and strategically damaged this nation Mitch, you weren’t standing up for it, it isn’t stronger because of the policies you backed, it is weaker. You were warned, you denied it, you insulted people offering you good advice – and you were wrong. period.
January 14th, 2009 at 11:55 am
And Mitch – here’s what Bin Laden’s ACTUAL point was – That US power declining fueled the attacks in Gaza.
We spend 500 Billion in Iraq and our power is declining.. was that your predicted outcome? We spend nearly 500 Billion a year on military hardware, personel, etc.. and our power is declining… wonderful, and by the way, heckuva Job there Bushie/Mitchey/neo-con strategy.
By the way, that comment about our power declining I’ve taken not from Osama Bin Laden, but from the Wall Street Journal – that hated bastion of liberal bias.

So peeve agrees with Osama’s analysis and complaint. Why am I not surprised?

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/01/news-roundup-us.html?loc=interstitialskip
One more – sorry – thought it might help – this is the one that points out how incorrect neo-cons have been saying that a. we don’t torture, and b. that Gonzalez’ memo on ‘enhanced interrogation’ wouldn’t/didn’t lead to these kinds of events… yeah, sure, they only happened in seven different countries after that memo came out.. yep.
So – to recap, neo-con strategy has
a. Lead to an unstable, potentially failing government in Afghanistan
b. Lead to an unstable and likely to wind up quasi-democratic, pro-Iranian Government in Iraq
c. Lead to the deaths of 500,000 or so Iraqis
d. Lead to massive deficits
e. Lead to a destruction of our national will
f. Lead to a destruction of our national reputation
g. Lead to a decay in our world position
In short, you’ve been dead wrong on the net effect here of your policies, you’ve willfully (seeming) destroyed our national treasury, and you’ve seriously harmed our strategic and military power. While I grasp it wasn’t intentional, you’ve done precisely what you accuse liberals of – you’ve probably irrreparably hurt this country – please tell me again about how you ‘support the troops’ and are the ‘real America’ and are the ‘true patriots’ while people who tried to warn you about the catastrophe you were brewing, are America Haters?
January 14th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
Nerd – I agree with the Wall Street Journal – get a freakin grip – how do you think you’d like it if I said you agreed with Bin Laden?
I can say I think Bin Laden’s assessment of the outcome, which he did in 2002, has proven correct – do you think it hasn’t? Based on what?
January 14th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Just waiting for the wingnut post claiming bin Laden’s actually dead…
January 14th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Btw, I certainly didn’t say I agreed with Bin Laden’s complaint, but of course, this is typical neo-con crappola- can’t argue the point, accuse your critic of being the enemy. Insulting prick conduct.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Why was I not surprised to find this comment thread was nothing more than a Peev circle jerk?
January 14th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
can’t argue the point
As opposed to you, who…
a) Post off-topic
b) scamper away, ignoring the many legitimate (indeed, dispositive) questions about your “points”.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Happy to oblige, AC:
I don’t “claim” he’s dead, but I do think he’s dead. Scratchy audio releases aren’t as convincing to me as they apparently are to you. As MSNBC.com states:
The authenticity of the tape could not be independently confirmed, but the voice resembled that of bin Laden in previous messages.
Personally, I do a great Jimmy Stewart impression. I imagine, with a little practice, I could adequately mimic Osama bin Laden: “I keel you!” Terrorist figureheads are the Elvis of the Middle East.
At any rate, alive or dead, I don’t really care; it’s the terrorist organizations that are the concern, not some guy huddled in a cave, or a drying blood smear on a rock.
Now, cue the snarky AC rejoinder, complete with “kooky wingnut” barb.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
a. as opposed to the stable Taliban and the safe AQ
b. as opposed to the stable tyranny of the unstable Saddam
c. where on earth do you get your numbers?
d. yes we have massive deficits, what will our messiah do? make them bigger!
e. my will is not destroyed, sorry to hear that yours is.
f. seems your boy Galloway still doesn’t like us, even though we have elected the messiah.
g. We may be hurting but if we get back to a conservative sound fiscal policy we will come out of it. The Bush admin if it is guilty of anything it is that they and Congress (both R and D controlled) spent to much and didn’t rein in Freddie and Fannie with responsible lending standards. Sadly, nothing Obama and or Congress has said gives me any “HOPE” that they will “CHANGE” the policies that got us into this mess in the correct direction.
But here is Galloway and some Hamaside sympathiser not showing support for the messiah.

You’re right, Cathcart, it was probably Rich Little. Too bad there don’t seem to be any intelligence sources who agree with you.
And I bet your Jimmy Stewart sucks.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Mary! Why is AC such a snarky little douche, Mary?!
January 14th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
In the whole vast configuration of things, I’d say you were nothing but a scurvy little wingnut.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
I’ve been called far worse, by far more gifted snarkers than yourself. Try mixing it up on Fark once in awhile. Methinks you wouldn’t make it through the day.

January 14th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
See? It’s not about the bluntness, it’s in the descriptive delivery. So, like, I would say something like “I’d skull fuck you so hard, whoever pulled me out would be crowned the king of England.” That kind of thing. Again, consult Fark for more examples; it really is a rich trove.

In short, Bush’s deficit policies, his overstretch on military adventurism (Iraq), and his destruction of our national reputation have..
The Invasion and occupation of Iraq was approved by both houses of Congress. This included the votes of a majority of Dem’s in the senate (including Obama’s pick for SecState) and a significant number of Democratic congressmen.

Psst, Peev. You’re not suppose to talk about deficits anymore. Bush had $200-400B deficits. Barry has propposed $1.2+ Trillion ones for every year he is in office.
