Just Keep Repeating To Yourself…

…that “we have the best election system in the country“:

Six people have recently been charged in St. Louis County with a felony crime that is rarely seen on a Northeastern Minnesota court docket: “Voting while ineligible.”Its a felony punishable by a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, but a conviction most likely will result in a probationary sentence.Under Minnesota law, a person is ineligible to vote if his or her civil rights had not been restored after being convicted of treason, or any felony, or while under a guardianship in which a court order revoked the wards right to vote, or if found by a court of law to be legally incompetent. All six of the people charged – four at the St. Louis County District Court in Duluth and two at the St. Louis County District Court in Hibbing – are accused of being convicted felons when they allegedly voted in the November 2008 general election.”We discovered these cases left over from the previous administration,” St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin said. “Weve tried to address the backlog. We reviewed them all and charged those that were deemed to have probable cause to charge.”

And somehow, a Richfield man allegedly wound up voting up there:

Antonio Vassel Brown, 48, is being transported from the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Lino Lakes, where hes serving a 24-month sentence for the sale of crack, to make his initial appearance on the ineligible voter charge in Duluth on Aug. 30.

Best voting system in the country.  Best voting system in the country.  Best voting system in the country.  Best voting system in the country.  Best voting system in the country.

And remember – the only reason not to chant “Best voting system in the country” is that you’re a racist!

  1. Everyone knows this stuff happens. I’m shocked, shocked that they’re actually going to prosecute. Oh, I forgot – that would require a spine to punish! Maybe another state will prosecute these people for us….

  2. Terry, you are spot on.

The DemocRATs constantly commit outright fraud on absentee ballots, i.e. mailing them out late to our servicemen/women, then declaring them late when they return. Obviously, they realize that many armed forces members vote GOP, so got to keep them out of the system, but I can bet that there is selective acceptance being practiced by that commie Mark Ritchie’s office.

  3. Just keep repeating, “photo ID would fix it, photo ID would fix it…”

Illegal voting is indeed an issue. But photo ID — the GOP’s go-to “solution” — wouldn’t fix it. So why don’t we turn our attention to the actual problems?

  4. It was interesting to hear the Sec. of State interviewed on the real estate show on WWTC last night. He kept repeating the meme that requiring documentation to vote would turn voting from a right into a “privilege.” I take it then that he favors the unrestricted carrying of firearms, since the right to bear arms is also a constitutionally guaranteed right.

  5. Jeff, while I agree that voter ID won’t fix the entire problem, it will make it a little harder to cheat.

It won’t stop felon voting, but, it may stop students from voting in an election in which they are not eligible.

While we are at it we should just tie voter registration to our DL’s or State Photo ID. Our registration ends when the ID expires and renews when it is updated.

  6. We have these new-fangled things called “computers”. It would not be hard to have a state-wide registration system with terminals in the polling place. Heck, how many debit card readers are in the state? Instant info transfer. You get your one vote and go home. Try to vote again (or illegally) and the system alarms your cheating ass out of the poll. Of course, Democrat union thugs would take over the infrastructure and game the system. Let’s just go with a photo ID.

  7. Additionally connecting voter elegibility to state photo ID would certainly reduce illegal voting. Your vote is a secret but the fact you voted is not a secret.

  8. Wait, Jeff Rosenberg, are you now saying that we _don’t_ have the “best voting system in the country”? I ask because it seems a change of tack for you.

And now you’re saying let’s do _nothing_ to address the problem instead and pretend that will “fix it”? I ask that because that was the “solution” to the “non-problem” of voter fraud before this seeming change of heart.

  9. But photo ID — the GOP’s go-to “solution” — wouldn’t fix it. So why don’t we turn our attention to the actual problems?

It’s well established that antibiotics don’t help with viral illnesses. Therefore we should stop using penicillin, right?

Also, what are the “actual problems,” Jeff?

  10. Also, what are the “actual problems,” Jeff?
People figuring out that the DFL games the voting process and steals elections.

  11. Also, what are the “actual problems,” Jeff?

Felon voting. You know, what this post was about.

I’ve always advocated dealing with felon voting, which can be done by improving record-keeping . Felon voting is nothing more than a clerical error. A felon hasn’t been notified of their rights, goes to vote, and doesn’t have a notation that they are ineligible due to a felony. That missing notation is the problem that needs to be solved.

And yes, voter fraud is a non-issue. Illegal voting like this isn’t voter fraud. It’s not voter impersonation, it’s not an attempt to willfully misrepresent one’s right to vote. It’s the occasional lapse of county record-keeping. It’s regrettable, and it should be fixed, but it is not “fraud.”

  12. Felon voting is nothing more than a clerical error. A felon hasn’t been notified of their rights,

Felons sign a document indicating they understand they have no right to vote for a given period. It’s the only way anyone has ever been prosecuted for vote fraud in MN. For every other case, saying “I don’t know” is considered a legit defense. Try that with the IRS sometime!

. That missing notation is the problem that needs to be solved.

    Perhaps.

Then we can get down to solving vouching fraud, absentee voting irregularities and non-resident students double-dipping, getting vouched in MN and voting absentee back home.

I’m certainly up for easy solutions to either of them.

Cal me cynical – heck, I’ll call myself cynical – but I’m to the point where if the DFL opposes something, I consider it evidence that it’s a good idea.

  13. I’m certainly up for easy solutions to either of them.

I have some very easy solutions. Stop pretending that we have a horrible election system rife with fraud, when the only evidence you can ever present consists of non-fraud cases like the ones this post references. The solution to the Boogieman is to stop claiming the Boogieman exists.

  14. The solution to the Boogieman is to stop claiming the Boogieman exists.
Yeah, that strategy worked out so well for baseball and steroids. It was only after a series of funny-looking outcomes that baseball started to test and look for performance enhancing drugs. Until then they could claim there was no steroid problem and and act indignant that anyone would besmirch our National Pastime with such allegations. Of course if you won’t test for it, you won’t find it. Same goes for our other, and older, national pastime. Kind of makes you wonder how many politicians have had their performances “enhanced” over the years.

  15. The solution to the Boogieman is to stop claiming the Boogieman exists.

That’s a refreshingly laissez-faire attitude from you, Jeff.

  16. The solution to the out of control national debt is to borrow more money. Hey, what a concept!

  17. Jeffy;

See my earlier response on the mysterious cases of the late absentee ballots of our servicemen and women overseas then explain to me how the most blatant violators of this practice are states in which one of your communist comrades hold the office of Secretary of Corruption, I mean State. Of course, to you liberat cowards, that doesn’t matter, does it? It’s a chicken shit thing to do, especially when they are sent out late in the first place. Both the “vouching” and day of registration, were liberat inventions to help them to get more votes and everyone knows that they are rife with fraud, but as long as it benefits a DemonRAT, you will look the other way.

  18. Ans let us not forget, BossHoss, the challenges that Al “Count Every Vote!” Gore made to military ballots in Florida in 2000.

  19. Jeff Rosenberg said:

“I have some very easy solutions.” Blah blah pretend the problem doesn’t exist blah blah.

That was the old solution, right?
