Let’s Kick Things Off Early

Let’s harness some of that election mania right about now.
For whom are you going to caucus?
Results are not binding on any of the major parties
Yet.

Mitt Romney, I’m leaving for the day but I’ll try to put a piece together for Monday for the reasons why he’s my first choice and why Senator McCain is a pretty close second.

Mitt. It’s the only choice left.

Mitt. Since about 1856 or so, it’s been standard practice to have a Republican running in the general election and he’s about the only one left.

I’ve seen the straw ballot that will be used at the Republican caucuses and it includes a space for “other”. You need to include “other” as one of your selections because I think that helps distinguish the pure anti-McCain vote from the Romney kool-aide drinkers. I’d like to vote but I can’t until I see “other”.

I’ve seen the straw ballot for the Republican caucuses and there is an “other” selection. You need to include “other” because that represents a true anti-McCain vote. There are those of us out here that want to register our anger directly at McCain. “Other’ would fulfill that option.

My, what a broad spectrum of (licans) you have Mitch. 5 Democratic votes, 80 licans. It’s as if you’re site doesn’t foster true discussion or debate :).

On the contrary, Plymouth Mike, a vote for “other” is a vote for McCain. If the anti-McCain vote is splintered among a variety of candidates including “other,” McCain will have a chance to gain a plurality. And that will be a win. McCain won 36% of the vote in Florida. That’s not a majority, or even close. But it’s a win. Sometimes you don’t have an ideal option – I understand that. I preferred Fred Thompson to Mitt myself. But Fred’s not in it any more. Nor are a number of candidates who might be a better choice than Mitt. But Mitt is acceptable and far superior to the alternatives on offer. You have to buy candidates off the rack.

Peev,
Well, realistically, there really ARE only two Tic candidates. There is no significant “protest” insurgency in the party; Ralph Nader comes closest, and he’s a green.
There are still three candidates on the GOP side, even if the Huck’s a stretch. But I’m interested in gauging the conservative protest vote – for which no analog really seems to exist on the left – as measured through protest support for Fred and Rudy.
