Possibilities

By Mitch Berg

Who would win if two major networks got into a gunfight over Helen Thomas’ seat in the White House press conference room?

Fox News Washington managing editor Bill Sammon says Bloomberg is a bad choice for Helen Thomas’ seat because it’s a “financial niche news outlet,” but Bloomberg’s Al Hunt contends that “no news organization is more committed to Washington or White House reporting” than his employer.

Answer:  the world.

I wouldn’t fight for her seat unless I had evidence it had been fumigated and given a thorough Scotchguarding.

  2. Kermit Says:

I say just leave it empty. It has been for years, why change now?

  3. jpmn Says:

This idea that this seat or that seat “belongs” to Helen Thomas or to Senator Kennedy should be as foreign to us as a Monarchy.

I don’t really care who gets the seat or how they determine who gets the seat. Comical Ali, I mean Gibbs will just call on those with softball questions anyway.

  4. Chuck Says:

To balance out Helen Thomas’ legacy, I say give it to Ann Coulter.

  5. Dog Gone Says:

Ann Coulter doesn’t have press credentials.

Helen Thomas, as awful as her last statements were, did have legitimate press experience and expertise.

I think they ought to rotate who gets the front seats, no favoritism.

You don’t really know that, now do you? It’s not as though you need some sort of journalistic papal dispensation to get them, either.

  7. Kermit Says:

No favoritism? That violates the spirit of the White House Press Corps! And the MSM, for that matter.

Credentials? Experience? Expertise? For what? To bend over for your favourite lib president and demonize rightly (but mostly wrongfully) anyone else? I would pay to see Coulter ask questions of Comical Ali. Tapper needs company, not another set of Lib bootlickers.

    I do!

  10. Scott Hughes Says:

How about NARN represented by Mitch Berg. Care to live in the D.C. area Mitch?

I used to carry around the “Press” card I was given during my last newspaper gig, even after having been out of that job for years. I used it to get into all sorts of local events for free. I eventually stopped doing that when the card started to look just a LITTLE too tattered.

  12. Mitch Berg Says:

When I was a producer at KSTP, I used to get “press credentials” for damn near everything I wanted to do. SO many concerts for free. It rocked.

    I didn’t do a lot of actual reporting…

Hmmm. Neither did Helen Thomas. Say, has anyone seen HT and Mitch in the same room at the same time?

  14. angryclown Says:

No, but Angryclown did see Swiftee sniffing her chair.

    Shame on you, Mitch/Peeevee.
