There Isn’t Much…

By Mitch Berg

…about the way high school was when I was a kid that makes me sit up and say “damn, they had the right idea.”

But I do know that if some students had started a petition saying “we don’t want to have graduation at the Civic Center [the only building in town big enough to hold the graduation], so move it or we won’t attend”, the principal – Virgil Buchholtz, who’d been a Marine fighter pilot during World War II – would have settled that quickly and sharply.

Perhaps it’s not being a teenager. Perhaps it’s having raised teenagers. Perhaps it’s reading some history, and realizing how deeply stupid movements on the macro scale led by “youth” tend to be.

But I wish someone in the Chaska/Chanhassen school district had the same common sense that Mr. Buchholtz had when I read stories like this:

Next week, Eastern Carver County Schools plan to host graduation ceremonies for Chaska and Chanhassen high schools at Eden Prairie’s Grace Church. But this year families are pushing for a change in venue after Chaska High Schooler Eli Frost created a petition.

On the petition that now has 364 signatures, Frost wrote: “Grace Church has a long history of making derogatory, public statements against the LGBTQ+ community. Further, they do not support divorce even in situations of domestic violence. As a community of students and parents who represent a wide variety of marginalized identities, we must change this venue.”

Young Mr. Frost has gotten a lot of facts wrong – go ahead and follow the link to Grace Church’s response.

And I hope the Chaskahassen schools have a sudden attack of common sense in the next week.

I think young Mr Frost has a big future ahead of him as an activist.

What a little turd! I’m betting that he has never attended Grace Church. His screed and petition are pretty laughable, considering the fact that I have attended and participated in programs there. When I was between jobs, I attended a full day job search seminar, which was on a Saturday and completely staffed by volunteers. The cost was $10.00, which was for a boxed lunch. There were six volunteers that were in senior level HR positions at a variety of companies, that were there to review resumes and conduct mock interviews, giving feedback on both. Funny that two of the people that attended when I did, were gay. Of course, this was back in 2018, when there was very little, if any, gaslighting by left wing slime balls.

You’re not renting the hall to hold a Gay Pride event. You’re not renting it to hold a No-Fault Divorce workshop. You’re renting it for an entirely secular purpose – a public school graduation ceremony – during which the attitudes and beliefs of the hall owner will not be mentioned. So why do you care?

Because the Personal is the Political. Which means EVERYTHING is political and therefore every aspect of your personal thoughts and beliefs are air game for those who seek to oppress and control their political opponents. Show trials, struggle sessions, public humiliation, all part of the Political process of destroying you and your country.

    Hillary started it.
Trump didn’t get around to Locking Her Up.
    Never too late . . .

    “He”, boss?

You are assuming gender. How DARE you! Don’t think I can continue visiting here with all the hate.

^ You sweet talker you, I’d like to thank you for noticing my hatred. 😉

They sure love that word “safety”.

The question that comes to mind for me is this; while Grace Church has a nice facility, what’s so wrong with the Chaska and Chanhassen High School gyms that graduation can’t be held there? Or their football fields? Both schools will have 300-400 graduates, and suffice it to say that I’m not quite sure either group of students will be happy to wait twice as long to walk across the stage and get their diplomas.

From the church’s point of view, I’d be afraid that allowing a secular event on campus would reduce their ability to do things like “refuse to host gay weddings”.

An iron rule of human nature states that “You are who you hang with”.

Because of that, I rebooted my son’s social life by taking him out of Chaska High School and moving to a town 50 miles south. As a parent, it is the best thing I ever did.

    It was toxic then.

    It is worse now.

My favorite memory of that school district from when I lived in Chaska was going to a school board meeting to suggest that they build Chanhassen High a little smaller because they didn’t need the space. I was told that (keep in mind this is in 2008 I believe) that the “time value of money” meant that it was better to spend the money now instead of waiting for later, totally inverting the economic concept.

BTW, Greg, I moved 60 miles south on HWY 13 to Waseca before coming to Rochester/Mantorville. I guess we were neighbors.

The schools will cave, of course. If I had the authority, I would send the following message to petition signers:
“Dear Student: Because attending graduation at Grace Chruch is anathema to you, here is the plan for you: Your diploma will be deposited at midnight of graduation day into a Target shopping cart left at George Floyd Square in Minneapolis. Have a good life!”

On a more immediate level, I would think the church would be afraid of vandalism and property destruction now that 364 simpering little shits hate the facility, if the school isn’t able to or doesn’t change venues. The church would be wise to request a uniformed cop be positioned in the foyer, if for no other reason, than for deterrence. I’m sure the Carver County Sheriff would be willing to supply one.

The only people I’ve seen attacked as a class by the rainbow people are Christians. Never Muslims, never orthodox Jews.
    I wonder why that is?

  13. jdm Says:

The online comments from that petition (of why they signed) are typical in their ignorance and narcissism.

MMP: “I wonder why that is?”

Han: Let him have it. It’s not wise to upset a Wookiee.
C-3PO: But sir. Nobody worries about upsetting a droid.
Han: That’s cause a droid doesn’t pull people’s arms out of their sockets when they lose. Wookiees are known to do that.
C-3PO: I see your point, sir. I suggest a new strategy, R2. Let the Wookiee win.
