Ever Notice…

By Mitch Berg

… how iconic brands in Minneapolis never find buyers? They always go from humming along to closing up shop for good?

Psycho Suzies tiki lounge may have been one of the most distinctive bars/restaurants in the city, that, for its many faults, as always been pretty creative on the food front.

It’s been a while since I’ve been there – although one of my most treasured memories is cleaning Bridget Cronin‘s vomit off my shoes during one of her birthday parties there. But every time I was ever there, it was packed, especially on gorgeous summer nights, where you could sit and look across the Mississippi River at the sparkling of gunfire from North Minneapolis.

You think it would be a hot property, including its branding, for someone.

But nooooo…

Psycho Suzie’s Motor Lounge announced it will permanently close on Aug. 19.

“For the past two decades we’ve welcomed you through our tiki laden jungle to enjoy tropical drinks, pizza pies, waterfront seating, and the company of new and old friends… but all good things must come to an end and this Psycho Suzi is ready to hang it up and put on her retirement hat,” said owner Leslie Bock, in a Facebook post.

So what Minneapolis social tradition will be next? City government has drawn a line in the Sand around the first Avenue, clearly – that place is escaped the apathy of the market. Thanks to city intervention a number of times.

The Dakota? God forbid.

When it was my turn to say where the club was riding to after church, I always chose either Psycho Suzie’s or the bar in St. Francis.

We had good times at both places.

One of my brothers told me recently that blacks had started showing up at Suzie’s, and commandeering the deck. I wonder if that has anything to do with the failure to find a buyer.

What used to be the longest bridge in the world (because it connected Poland to Africa), the Lowry Ave bridge no longer is. Nordeast Mpls is working towards becoming just as shitty as North.

Why would anyone with eyes to see where things are going in Mpls wanna buy into that? Iconic brand name or not.

  3. Blade Nzimande Says:

I remember when the Lowry bridge had a metal grate deck (and no faggot lights). Made riding side by side exciting, especially when we were riding with our neighbors on Washington Ave.

Closing?! Again?! It closed once before, allegedly for the same reason – Leslie wanted to retire.

  5. Blade Nzimande Says:

boss, as I recall, it closed last time for a move to the present location.

look on YouTube for “DIY White Trash Claymore” made from a mousetrap and a 16-gauge shotgun shell.

of course, the guy’s a Marine instead of a Machinist so there are technical difficulties with the video but the concept is interesting for perimeter defense of a large area like your woods. Cheap to make. Easy to install. Loud enough to serve as a wake-up alarm.

I still don’t think that the Dems know the heat of the fire. They seem to want Trump to be the GOP presidential candidate in 2024 because Biden legally beat Trump in 2020.
But Biden is one misstep coming down the Air Force One ramp, one minor stroke, one more scandal away from losing to Trump in 2024. It’s going to be close in any case, given the rigors of the campaign trail and Biden’s clearly degrading mental functioning. And then it’s Kamala vs. Trump, or the chaos of a Newsom vs Harris battle for the Dem nomination. Trump could have his legal problems dismissed by the supreme court.
What I am getting at is that it by no means obvious that Trump, if nominated by the GOP, will not win the 2024 presidential election.
What do the Dems do then?

  20. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

Apparently the black guy who was shot by a MN state trooper after being pulled over had a hand gun in the car, which he was prohibited from owning due to a preventive order as well as several other convictions.
There is a 0% percent chance that I will ever have an illegally possessed hand gun in my car because I haven’t been to the range in years and I think it is dumb to keep a gun in your vehicle when you are out just driving around.
One of the idiocies of the Left is that they seem to think it is a normal thing to drive around with a loaded handgun in your car if you are a black guy.

  21. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

I suppose next we will learn that Cobbs was an “aspiring rapper.” Liberals love to pigeonhole blacks into categories based on their race.

  22. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

I know the 4 AM vote counters will never let it happen, but it would be hilarious if Trump had to stick his arm through the bars of the jail cell to put his hand on the Bible to take the oath office.

“I’m sorry, Mr Putin but the president can’t take your call right now. He only gets 15 minutes of phone privileges a week. Can i pencil you in for a week from Thursday?”

  24. bosshoss429 Says:

    MP;
When liberal lawyers, who actually follow the law, are criticizing the corrupt DOJ and idiot Jack Smith indictments on Trump, you should realize that you’ve gone too far. Then, when intelligent minds realize that Smith has a career filled with smack downs of his cases by the SCOTUS, at least two being unanimous (even the left’s hero RBJ smacked him), no one should take him seriously. Dershowitz and Turkey have both stated that Trump most likely has grounds for a lawsuit for violating his civil rights by dragging out the trials. These actions are the very definition of third world election interference. The regime knows that all of these bogus charges will be dismissed by SCOTUS, but they also know that, unless they deem it necessary to speed up their hearings, it will take time.
Bottom line: the deep state bastards are scared. Trump’s whole goal is to flush their crimes into the open and bring them to justice, punctuated by Hillary’s panicked rant during her loss in 2016, “if that bastard wins, we’ll all hang from nooses!” Of course, they killed three Kennedys and shot Reagan for trying to do the same thing.

  25. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

Bosshoss, I think that the correct thing for the Biden DoJ to have done in the classified docs case and the Trump J6 stuff is lay out its case against Trump publicly and then decline to indict him.
Democrats wanted Trump to be the GOP nominee in 2016 because they thought that Hillary would beat him easily.
From what I hear Dem politicians & pundits say, they literally cannot imagine Trump beating Biden in 2024.
They are banking on Biden, and that is a mistake.

It’s a little crowded in my bathroom, with a computer server rack taking up so much room where the towels used to hang, but I need that. it’s not to conduct secret business off the books, it’s for recipes and grand kid photos. that’s where I keep them. doesn’t everyone?

  28. bosshoss429 Says:

    I know your pain, Big.
I have to store boxes of my classified documents from WWII and my financial records in my bathroom.

  29. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

The J6 indictment of Trump could backfire big-time on the Dems. It’s not a strong indictment, it contains novel interpretation of law, it depends on Trump knowingly lying, etc. Jack Smith has been smacked down by the supreme court before . . .
Noting would drive independents away from Biden more than a bungled prosecution. It would confirm that Biden’s prosecution of Trump was all political, a bone Slow Joe had to throw to his deranged base.

“the former president had been listening to “crackpot lawyers” who convinced him there was a way to stay in power.” ~ NYT

Considering Trump had said since 2016 he wouldn’t accept any election result he didn’t win, I find it hard to believe his inspiration for overturning the election only came from said “crackpots.”

The man wanted to stay in power and attempted a coup. It’s not that complicated. This was not the fault of his lawyers, he bears responsibility for his actions.

This is the key reason why Trump desperately wants to get re-elected. He needs a presidential pardon to pardon himself. The US will set itself up for a major constitutional crisis. This would certainly then be challenged in the courts but I have no doubt how the Supreme Court stuffed with Trump cronies would decide on that. The US could sink into total chaos.

  32. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

Lesko Brandon should pardon Trump and Hunter, both.

That would take the lawfare shenanigans out of the election, give the nation a fair chance at choosing the next President.

It’d be the right thing to do.

  33. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

The state should impose a $10,000 per year tax on electric vehicles, to offset the lost revenue from gas tax and payroll taxes on employees in the gas and oil industry.

The possibility it might infuriate Liberals enough to move out of state, would be a bonus.

  34. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

If you pay people if they don’t work, then refuse to count them as ‘unemployed’ because they’re not ‘actively looking for work,’ the unemployment rate will:

    a. rise
    b. remain the same
    c. fall

  35. Emery Says:

There’s your labor market slowdown, to the degree you can call it one at 3.6% unemployment.

  36. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

    whoosh, right over the head

  37. Emery Says:

The indictment makes it very clear that Trump is not charged because of what he said. He is charged because of what he did. Overt acts to subvert the election results, obstruct justice and defraud the People of the United States by taking away their right to vote and have their votes counted.

  38. Emery Says:

“Lesko Brandon should pardon Trump and Hunter, both.” ~ Big & Tall

Hunter Biden should just declare he’s running for the Republican nomination, which as I understand it requires that all charges against him be immediately dropped.

  39. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

All it will take is one juror out of nine to decide the case against Trump is politically motivated & there is a mistrial, which is just as bad as an acquittal for the D’s.
And in his defense Trump will bring up all of the times Dems have submitted alternate slates of electors, and all of the times dems have voted to NOT recognize legal vote counts, all of the times Dems have complained of voter fraud, and for all their efforts to change the legal outcome of an election, never facing an indictment. Stacey Abrams fighting her election loss should be worth a full day or more of the defense’s time.
Dems can’t see how they are helping Trump’s odds in 2024 because, well, there is a reason that they call it Trump Derangement Syndrome.

  40. Emery Says:

There was so much evidence that Trump lost the election that he can only escape conviction by proving that he is delusional.

Joseph Heller is needed to spell it out.

  41. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

The junta which seized power after a disputed election has charged the leading political opponent with crimes that could carry the death penalty, and scheduled the show trial to be heard by a judge who donated to the junta in a junta-controlled city, to be held just weeks before the next election.

Genuine tinpot dictators in actual Third World Shitholes are cringing in embarrassment at the current state of US national politics.

I am looking forward to Trump’s defense calling Al Gore and his lawyers to the stand as hostile witnesses.

  43. Emery Says:

The Trump campaign has said the indictment was part of a “continued pathetic attempt” by Biden and the DoJ to “interfere” with the 2024 election.

Trump needs a better narrative than this well worn trope. It is not a defense to the charges he faces.

I realize federal trials are not televised — perhaps Justice Roberts will see clear to make an exception. This trial needs to televised so Americans can see and hear the truth played out in a court of law, where Trump and his allies cannot spew bogus claims devoid of facts without consequence.

  44. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

Didn’t Mark Dayton’s sons have a restaurant – Bachelor Farmer, maybe – that failed? You’d think they could have found a buyer. What is it about Minneapolis?

  45. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

All the evidence which supposedly supports the most recent indictment has been clear and well known since January 7, 2021. The reason we had to wait until just before the next election to hold the trial is . . . .

    . . . well, definitely not to influence the voters. Certainly not. Uh huh, nosirree. It was . . . um . . . well, you see . . . .

  46. Emery Says:

‘I’m being indicted for you’ ~ Donald Trump

Trump was indicted for all of us. This approach is readily understood by Christians & New Testament scholars, but it’s something of a novelty for the American legal system.

  47. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

“it’s something of a novelty for the American legal system.”

That’s because the American legal system was intended to be different from others, it was intended to judge people for their own acts, not for the acts of others who look like them, or their ancestors, or share their religious or political beliefs.

Obama instituted and Biden continues the shift toward a more totalitarian society in which you are judged by your associations, your beliefs, the company you keep, and not merely for social or reputational consequences, but life-and-death denial of medical service, denial of banking account, denial of travel, and ultimately denial of liberty and possibly life itself.

To imprison and kill your political enemies is not an improvement over the old ways. It is a return to the ancient ways, the ones Western Civilization spent centuries trying to escape. Civilization has seen this played out before. Next comes The Long Night.

  48. jdm Says:

To imprison and kill your political enemies is not an improvement over the old ways

Yeah-but. This time, tho’, imprisoning and killing your political enemies will done differently! It’s like socialism, which has also never worked, but this time, with all the smart people like Fluffy behind it, it’ll work great!

  49. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

The troll seems to read every word trump has ever written.
That’s your #TDS, right there. I could care less what Trump puts out on social media or says on TV. I have no interest at all in what he has to say, I have no emotional reaction to Trump whatsoever.
