The city of Champlin is mulling over seceding from Hennepin County, and joining Anoka County:

And they’re not wrong:

“When you look at the big picture, it feels like we’re just an ATM,” said Mayor Ryan Sabas about the Hennepin County Government. “But they are not making deposits here back to the city of Champlin.”

One-third of resident’s tax bill is sent to the Hennepin County government, according to the mayor.

And they are not wrong:

One example the mayor provided is that currently there are no transportation dollars being spent on projects in the community over the next four years.

“Our efforts with Hennepin County over the years to have them assist infrastructure, road projects or any requests with the county, really goes unheard,” said Mayor Sabas.

I expect a pretty robust response from the DFL. Presumably, including building a barbed wire fence around Hennepin County, with mines and guard dogs to keep people from leaving people.

  1. It is exactly like Champlin is seceding from the Union to join the Confederacy.
    Exactly.

  2. Exactly, MMP. It’s not bad enough that White People fled vibrantly diverse Minneapolis to live in Champlin, now they want to take their entire CITY with them.

They should be HAPPY to pay for a better Minneapolis.

    H8TERS.

  3. You know….

If a group of millionaires were really smart, they’d start a non-profit that would flood trendy areas of the city with homeless, garbage and crime, to force shopkeepers out of business and drive away affluent renters.

They would then buy up all the properties and have their non-profit shift the homeless, garbage and crime to the next trendy area.

Buy low, sell high…rinse and repeat.

Not say’n that’s what they are doing….but hey, it’s the only thing that makes sense.

  4. …currently there are no transportation dollars…

Call me cynical, but this sounds like somebody is not happy they did not get a choo-choo and are afraid Champlin will not be progressive enough to attract as many people as MSP.

  5. Well, Greg, you could start by forbidding landlords from discriminating on the basis of criminal record. Since ex cons and felons usually don’t make much money, and are single men, they can’t afford a very expensive place, so that will concentrate the cons and criminals in the poor part of town.

  7. Maga,

Of course you are referring to this:

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has put landlords and other housing providers on notice that a policy of denying housing to anyone with a prior arrest or any kind of criminal conviction would violate the Fair Housing Act.

And now that the DFL has empowered murderers, robbers and rapists to vote in Minnesota, one suspects criminals will soon have priority – to make up for past discrimination, of course.

  8. and another one off-topic… because it sooooo priceless…
