The Future

Joe Doakes from Como Park writes:

Progressives claim this election is Conservatives’ last gasp before demographics render them irrelevant forever.

Sounds as if they agree with that awful right-wing hate-monger, Mark Steyn:

Well then, if Liberals will be in charge from now own, this won’t be a problem:

I can divert spending from whiskey and bullets to . . . well, more whiskey, I suppose. Good to know!

I guess Warren Buffet is in for a huge bill.

  1. Coincedental to Joe Doakes letter, via Insty comes news this morning that more and more folks are, as Sen. Phil Graham used to say, riding in the wagon and less and less folks are pushing the wagon.

As the opening paragraph notes – “Huey Long once said to a crowd of Louisianans, so the story goes, “If you aren’t getting something for nothing, you aren’t getting your fair share.””
And yet when I point out to my Liberal friends and family members – the birth rate here is dropping below replacement level at a time when Barry, Nancy and the previous Democratic majority in Congress just mashed the pedal on permanent entitlement spending via Obamacare and more unemployed are electing to go on disability rather than continuing to look for work or take a job below what they are ‘getting’ from government – their general reaction is to tell me this would be fixed if only the ‘rich’ would pay their fair share. This is the script for Greece II.
As a native Detroiter, I’ve seen this show before – keep raising taxes on the producers to fund a wasteful, corrupt government with some scraps for the poor only to see the producers leave for the suburbs and beyond (Western Michigan, Florida, the Southwest, Mexico, Asia).
I suppose that until the Chinese call in the debt, we’ll continue in this ridiculus pattern of spending that which we don’t have because we’re America and somehow we always see our way through. But this isn’t a war versus some horrible monster – we have met the enemy and it is us.
