I’m Curious

Is there someone out there, anywhere, who read this:

…and thought “Hmmm – government is clearly not working for my family, and the “Inflation Reduction Act is clearly a turd that will raise prices…

but he ended it with the word “Period”.

Hmmm.

He must be onto something”?

  1. Obama, June 11, 2009::
“That means that no matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period.”

Politifact named that the lie of the year for 2009.

  2. Translated from Bidenese, “—period” means:

    1) because I say so: and
    2) shut the f up.

  3. BTW, even though Politico named Obama’s fiction “Lie of the Year” for 2009, it’s bias is still appalling. Politico said that Obama began to “over simplify” his description of Obamacare to counter Republicans lying about Obamacare.
I wonder what the US would look like if we had an unbiased press? Both parties work to the middle, so the numbers in Congress might be what they are today, but the Democrat Party would be to the right of the (now despised) Bill Clinton.

  4. Why should large companies pay significantly less tax than smaller companies?

Aside from being inequitable to different tax payers, it distorts competition.

The carve-out for private equity just reflects bribery (euphemistically referred to as campaign donations).

  5. Well, Emery, you apparently missed this over the years. Despite the DemoCommies constantly using that tired meme; “big companies should pay more and by golly, we’re going to force them to do it”, corporations don’t actually pay “more taxes”. They either pass that additional cost on to their customers, change their headquarters to a more tax friendly country (like Medtronic) and/or move assets to those countries.

  6. When carried interest first came into being in the industry, it was on the basis that the fees earned through the life of the fund should cover the cost of running the business ( and sometimes it didn’t, because the funds were so small). The carry was the incentive to build a high quality team and keep them there through the long years before any carry kicked in. For large parts of the industry, carry never materialized.

Then the LBO bankers hopped on the bandwagon and the buyout industry was transformed to an asset gathering, carry almost guaranteed industry.

  7. I like Mr. D’s way of describing it, but another way of describing it is that when a Democrats tries to emphasize what he’s saying by adding “period” to it, he’s lying.

As far as I can tell, what the Biden bills actually do is juice consumption while (higher taxes) penalizing production, which is going to make inflation shoot up through the roof. Making things yet worse is that government is going to need to borrow money, which will increase the money supply and inflationary pressures further.

  8. After defeat in Afghanistan, a land war in Europe, highest inflation in 40 years, biggest stock market drop in 50 years, my fondest wish — and the fondest wish of many other Americans, democrats and republicans both, would be that Joe stop trying to make government work for working families.
Whatever it is that he thinks he is doing, he should just stop it. The sooner the better.

  9. History will be kind, respectful and praise Biden for his time in office. He inherited a massive task and has worked steadily under unjustified and sometimes irrational criticism to pull the USA back together. The republicans and Trump fans still present a huge threat to American democracy

While you could argue that Biden’s achievements on climate cannot be compared to the Clinton or even the Obama era because global heating has now advanced so much that even a large part of our friends with irrational right-wing guts start to get it. Still Biden deserves a lot of credit.

Another major achievement not mentioned is his leadership in reaction to the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Imagine the West with Trump in the White House right now?!

  10. The republicans and Trump fans still present a huge threat to American democracy

    By voting!
Not really good with concept of “irony,” are you, Emery?

  11. Yes.. Trump racheted down tensions by pandering to dictatorships and showing them that the US is prepared to screw over our allies. It is only fortunate that our allies are not fair-weather friends and held their noses while Trump ran roughshod over our allies so they were still there when Russia proved our alliances are just as necessary as ever and need to be strengthened….not weakened.

  12. ^^The only man not in the White House who thinks that we are better off now than we were four years ago.Defeat in Afghanistan? Land war in Europe? Worst infaltion in fourty years? Biggest six month drop in DJIA ever? Jesus, Emery, you are a dumb bunny.

  13. There are those who want the US to be a cohesive successful democratic country that protects the post WW2 rules based international system and there are those who support Trump.

Biden’s approach shows what effective leadership can achieve even in a hostile congressional environment.

  14. Imagine spending 1/2 your time, every day, among people from whom you must conceal your identity because they loathe you, and are convinced you’re a pathological liar.

Imagine the lonely, pathetic existence where even your own family has abandoned you.

    Imagine being 🐀 Emery.

  15. For Brandon to be successful at most things you’d have to redefine the word “success”.
And that particular kind of propaganda seems to be right up their alley (‘recession’ anyone?).
For Emery, the ‘dumb bunny’ label is too kind.

  16. Individuals like Swift who couldn’t tolerate wearing a mask are now convinced he’d love a civil war.
