John Thompson – the DFL endorsed candidate for the Minnesota House, who threatened to burn down Hugo, Minnesota – is clearly not a fan of the police.
And it’s causing the DFL problems – while by all indications Ken Martin is keeping Thompson locked up in a closet and not letting him anywhere near the public, the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, normally a reliable endorser of DFL candidates, has switched its endorsements in two swing House districts, and possibly more. The kerfuffle – which the media hasn’t been able to bury, despite their best efforts – caused the DFL to bag a fundraiser with Thompson and other DFL officials last week, which is a big deal, two months before an election.
Now, I’ve had a policy since the beginning of this blog: I leave peoples’ families out of it. Some of my various stalkers haven’t been quite as discriminating – and yes, that does make me a better person than them.
In early August 2018, a St. Paul officer was credited with saving his life after he was shot outside a funeral home on the 700 block of Portland Avenue.
Thompson was found in an alley with gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen after a confrontation with a fellow citizen became violent. The St. Paul Police Department said that officer Mathew Jones aided Thompson and stemmed his bleeding until EMS arrived to transport him to the hospital. It is unlikely that Thompson would have survived without the medical care Jones administered, authorities said.
Reports from Fox 9 and the Pioneer Press identified the man who was shot on Aug. 6, 2018 as Thompson’s son Damarco. The St. Paul Police Department confirmed with Alpha News that Damarco’s life was saved by Jones, who received the Life Saving Award for his actions that day.
“While the saving of a life is generally attributed to the hospital and responding EMS crews, the officers who take those initial actions, such as Officer Jones, should receive the lion’s share of the credit,” St. Paul Fire’s EMS coordinator, Captain Kenneth Adams, said of the incident. “For if it were not for them and their actions, the EMS crews and hospital staff would not have a patient to work with.”
I leave families out of things – but it doesn’t seem remotely unfair to point this out.
Among the left’s long list of abusive rhetorical techniques, and the one that has me in a particular state of pique, is the phrase “SAY HIS (or HER) NAME”.
It’s a pretty ghastly bit of emotional manipulation – basically a bit of on-the-spot brainwashing, and the crudest, most blunt-force kind of framing there is.
With that in mind, Governor Klink is clearly getting the message – the suburbs, which gave the DFL the majority that keeps his dictatorial power in place, are clearly not amused by last weekend’s shenanigans and malarkey in Hugo.
But he can’t quuuiiiiiite put it in words without getting his progressive puppetmasters to whack him on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper:
We cannot accept the threatening behavior and rhetoric we’ve seen recently in our political discourse. When I talk about building One Minnesota, it doesn't mean we all agree or that we won't fight for what we believe in. It means we treat each other with decency and respect.
Go ahead, Governor Walz. Or, let’s be honest, Flanagan.
If you live outside the Jonestown cult that is the DFL in the Twin Cities, you need to make sure your neighbors seriously absorb this episode. It tells you everything there is to know about today’s DFL.

Additional footage of Thompson’s speech showed him wondering why protesters “were so peaceful.” He then told a man holding a blue lives matter sign to “take that sign” and “stick it in [his] ass.”
“We coming for everything that you motherf–ers took from us,” he added. “This whole [vulgarity] state burned down for 20 [vulgarity] dollars. You think we give a f– about burning Hugo down?”
Huh.
The story has evaded the Mainstream Media, of course – they want the DFL to hold those suburban seats. You’ve got to go to the honest, conservative media to get the story.

I don’t understand Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman’s legal analysis in charging the BLM shooter with assault with a deadly weapon.
When Black people protest, it’s a Constitutionally protected right. If White people counter-protest, it should be just as protected, right?
Yes, I know, the White people said they were going to stir up trouble. They know somebody who owns a Confederal flag. They talked trash on video. That’s bad manners, agreed. But filming Black protestors and even calling them names is no less protected speech than burning a cross in somebody’s yard and we know that’s constitutional, decided decades ago in RAV v. St. Paul. So going to the protest should be good.
If the White guys were racially offensive in implementing their counter-protest, does that negate the shooters self-defense claim? The standard is:
Did not initiate the physical conflict, must be a reluctant participant.
Attempted to retreat by running away
Reasonably believed they were about to suffer great bodily harm at the hands of an enraged mob
Used reasonable force to repel the attack by firing a few rounds, only one of which injured anybody
I’m sure the prosecutor and the media will portray the White men as the aggressors, not as reluctant participants. But that doesn’t sound right to me. If you and I are having a heated discussion, the guy who throws the first punch is the aggressor, regardless how annoying the words are.
There might be such a thing as “fighting words” to justify a quick punch. But there’s no such thing as “chasing-down-an-alley” words to justify a mob beating. The Black mob initiated the threat of physical violence, the White men attempted to retreat and used reasonable force as a last resort. I would think the shooter has a pretty good case for self-defense. I would expect Mike Freeeman to see that. I therefore conclude the assault charge is grandstanding to pacify the same mob that initiated the violence. That’s not a good long-term strategy for maintaining public order.

“Progressive” politics is always a matter of balancing respective mobs of constituents, usually against each other.
There was a shooting at the 4th Precinct demonstrations, late Monday night. Three men, described by BLM as “white supremacists” – and in retrospect it appears they were, although to be fair some elements in BLM call everyone a white supremacist – shot five protesters. Thankfully, none of the injuries are “serious”, although let’s be honest, if I get hit by a bullet, it’s freaking serious.
But it’s the left we’re talking about, here. It’s a crisis. Waste not, want not.
How’s That Again?: The three shooters – apparently identifiable as “White Supremacists” by dint of wearing masks, were being “escorted away from the protest”, according to the media’s accounts, or (according to these two people in, er, masks), “escorted” rather more aggressively:
Anyway, the three men – whose arrest the Strib reports – ran, and then opened fire, hitting five. It took about 12 hours for the police to catch them.
They were apparently white men, some of whose Facebook pages bespeak some kind of Caucasianist sympathies, we’re told.

Thanks, Betsy!: Now, if you’re not in the Twin Cities, let’s set the stage for you; Mayors Betsy Hodges of Minneapolis and Chris Coleman of Saint Paul have done everything possible under, and beyond, the law to accomodate Black Lives Matter. They’ve allowed BLM to repeatedly block freeways and mass transit during rush hour; they not only let BLM block Snelling Avenue for four hours during the State Fair – one of the busiest days of the year – they gave them a full, aggressive escort on their march. And they’ve tolerated a protest around a police station that has at times blocked access, teetered on the edge of violence, and required drawing police from other parts of the city for nights on end. Rumor has it the police leave mints on the pillows of Rashad Turner and Nekima Pounds-Levy.
And yet, when the chips were down, Minneapolis NAACP boss Raeisha Williams knew exactly who to blame:
No word if the suspects are sleepers for the MPD.
