World Of Hurt, Redux
By Mitch Berg
Via Roger Ebert’s twitter feed:
Kathryn Bigelow wins the [Directors Guild] Award for “The Hurt Locker!” That makes Locker the favorite for Best Picture in the Oscars.
Now that is good news.
I loved Hurt Locker when I saw it last summer; if you haven’t seen it, by all means do. It is one fantastic movie, and I’m hoping it hits the Oscars like a 152mm shell wired to a homemade detonator.
Rhetorically speaking.

I don’t know, Mitch, a 152 is a pretty big round. How would they get that in the Oscars?
Oh, wait, is Michael Moore up for anything this year?

It was a good movie, but the “war is a drug” message was troubling. After the spate of anti-military movies of the 90s I tend to distrust messages from Hollywood.
I would be delighted to hear the opinions of your veteran readers.

They used to have these things called “howitzers”…
Rhetorically speaking, of course.

As a rule I’m with ya, but “War is a drug” is pretty non-partisan.

True, but Hollywood has proven time and again that it is completely partisan. That’s why I would appreciate the POV of people who’ve actually had boots on the ground.
