What’s The Difference?

By Mitch Berg

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

The Garden Administration will take in refugees from Guatemala but not Cuba. Why not? They are all Latinx. They’re all fleeing poverty and persecution. Why take some and not the others?

Perhaps because Cuban-Americans vote Republican? Could Democrats really be that crass, that callous, that low – sorting refugees by political affiliation?

Rhetorical question, Joe?

Waittaminute, I think I know why. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a Cuban maid or gardener. But Guatemalans are all over those jobs. I mean, keeping those Guatemalans out of the country? ‘Who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?’

I should go get me a sombrero to look like an illegal – this way nobody will bug me if I am vaccinated or not.

It could be because Cuban refugees vote Republican, or it could be, even worse, that Biden’s running interference for the Cuban regime, and a mass exodus of refugees might put the regime over the edge. And really, given Biden’s policies, is one possibility that far from the other?
