Shot in the Dark

Repeat A Big Lie Often Enough

We started seeing it alwt week, with EJ Dionne’s puff piece in the NYTimes.

And over the past few days, you’re seeing Public Relations via Goebbels 101 in action: repeat something over and over and over until the gullible and uncritical start accepting it.

It started last week – the DFL’s functionaries and pet media referring to this past session as a “Minnesota Miracle”.

Note the coy presentation below:

“Whatever you want to call it?” The DFL is spending big money and redeeming big political capital to try to push the idea that their legislative orgy was, not a Mafia-like twisting of “moderate” arms after spending $18 for every GOP dollar to win the Senate by 300-odd votes, but a “Miracle” of progressive governance.

So, they “won” the session. They got everything they wanted, and then some. . The GOP wasn’t even a speed bump (somewhat unforgivably, in terms of the bonding bill IMO).

Why would the DFL feel the need to pimp so hard for the public image of their “colossal achievement”?

Oh. That’s why.

Credit where it’s due. Elected officials doing what they ran on and were elected to do instead if timidly gaming out every policy proposal to position themselves for their re-election bids is refreshing. Governing instead of constantly politicking. Leaders leading instead of demagogues fear-peddling.

Minnesota is a unique state in that deep down it is a little cautious and conservative…. thoughtful and genuinely caring. That said, it is educated, pragmatic and ultimately progressive. The most interesting thing is the Republicans insisting on funding for seniors…. love it! Proud to be be a pragmatic Minnesotan.

Emory– they lied about what they were going to do.

Well then — they will be beaten in the next election if that’s true.

“There’s nothing extreme about feeding kids,” he said. “There’s nothing extreme about women making their own health-care decisions. There’s nothing extreme about saying don’t demonize these trans children. Just make a place for them. We’ll all be okay. And I think I think it’s working.” ~ Tim Walz

That is a great campaign slogan.

I’d be more impressed with those brave politicians if they had stated their aims in plain English instead of euphamisms.

“We will guarantee everyone gets an abortion anytime, no restrictions at all.”

“We will make Minnesota a national destination for children’s genital mutilation.”

“We will make it illegal for law-abiding citizens to own a gun. Not all at once: it’s a phased-in approach starting with red flag laws and universal background check on law-abiding citizens, with more to come in future sessions. Criminals will not be affected so Black people – no need to get riled up, nothing changes for you.”

“We will raise taxes on working Minnesotans to give more money to illegal aliens and welfare layabouts.”

I confess I didn’t watch many of the campaign ads, but somehow I don’t remember seeing anything like that. Maybe I missed all the refreshing honesty?

⬆️ If your analysis is correct— both Houses will roll over to Republican. We know this because the MAGA GOP kitty litter base will nominate centrist candidates who will appeal to conservative Democrats and independent voters.

You are confusing Casting Ballots with Counting Ballots.

If 1,000 citizens stand in line to Cast their ballots, but the DFL intern pulls 1,001 pre-marked ballots out of the trunk of his car which are accepted and Counted, then it doesn’t matter what The People want, it matters what the Counters want.

The only difference to election results it would make for politicians to tell the truth is the number of ballots the intern needs to pull from the trunk. I don’t dispute Democrats will continue to win every election they choose to win. They control the apparatus of government – that’s why they’re called apparatchiks.

But it would make a huge difference to the public if the politicians told the truth. It would make the lies more flagrant, harder to stomach, harder to hide. It would make the self-congratulating messages more grating, more infuriating. Eventually, people will have enough of the lies and decide to act – not at the ballot box or the courthouse, they’re hopelessly corrupt – but in the only way left open to them, as described in the Declaration of Independence.

    Hopefully, I’ll gone by then.

Actually getting votes takes ideas and a platform.

Republicans set to push mail ballots, voting methods they previously blasted as recipes for fraud
    https://apnews.com/article/ballot-harvesting-early-voting-election-2024-republicans-a844f375bb86b012cfba0e67b3f77fb7

We are, believe it or not, in the 21st century. Perhaps it’s time that our voting system moved beyond our current, archaic, 18th-century designed system.

“Republicans say voting by mail gives Democrats an advantage.”

That’s it right there. The Party of Trump does everything it can to suppress the vote generally, and one of their favorite tactics is to limit the number of polling places in high-density areas, resulting in long lines that make many people who can’t miss that much work not vote, people who are (surprise!) more likely to vote Democratic.

Vote-by-mail torpedoes this. Glad to see Republicans joining the 21st century.

I do enjoy seeing virtually every Republican jumping onto the sinking ship. Just like Lindsey Graham tweeted back in 2016:

“If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed…….and we will deserve it.
It is like every republican is now determined to make that come true.”

I can’t wait for the reaction when the Jan 6 grand jury brings indictments.

Still making the same mistake, E.

Some Republicans think “Well, if Democrats are going to cheat, we should cheat too.” It won’t work. It’s not the Collecting of ballots that matters, it the Counting that matters and those positions are controlled by DFL apparatchiks.

When the DFL intern drops off his bundle of unverified ballots, they go straight to the counting machine. When the GOP ballot drops off his handful of carefully verified ballots, they go into the “spoiled ballot” box. Same number of total ballots submitted, but only some were counted.

Instead of making it “easier to vote” which means “easier to cheat,” we should be making it “harder to cheat” even if that also makes it harder to vote. Paper ballots and purple fingers.

Looking forward to the next DFL announcement:

“Ruth Lordan, noted Twin Cities psychic, will be providing voter assistance for the upcoming election at no cost to the public. Mz. Lordan is able to read voters’ minds to determine their intent, as far as 50 miles away. She has offered to assist local Get Out The Vote efforts by relaying voter intent to volunteers who will mark and deliver ballots so voters don’t need to. Psychic Voting is a tremendous advance in our ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers to access to democracy. We thank her for her generous contribution to making Minnesota a better place to live.”

    Think I’m kidding? Wait for it . . .

So this session, the DFL legislature was all in on mutilating the genitals of minors.

For some elements of the Somali community, that ought to come as welcome news.

    No?

You mean genital mutilation is okay but not that kind of mutilation.

Gosh, how DFL can you get.

Why can’t Minnesota Democrats have topless activists perform at a rally on the Capitol Grounds? What are we, chopped liver?

And another thing. The air quality in the Twin Cities today is worse than any bar or restaurant I ever frequented, back in the days when smoking indoors was allowed. Second-hand smoke kills, you know. That’s why the State of Minnesota sued the tobacco companies. If Keith cared about Minnesotans, he’d sue Canada. Think of all the children the State could afford to mutilate with the settlement proceeds.

Emery, i hope you live in the Twin Cities somewhere so you can eventually appreciate the Minnesota Utopia that will be eventually be brought to you by the DFL politicians and the legislation you so admire. And, I hope that next session brings you much joy. More taxes, more regulation, higher energy prices, a poorer citizenry and unruly, uneducated youth. Lucky you– Gov. Walz is now being fetted by the national media and so has lots of plans for next year. Yes, Emery you deserve this utopia, this Eden.
