Shot in the Dark

#OneAbusedSpouse

You and your significant other each earn $60,000 a year. That’s a total household income of $120,000.

Your bills – housing, transportation, loan payments, food, everything you do – come to $10,000 a month. Your family budget is balanced.

You go out to the casino one night, and get the luckiest break ever; you walk out $80,000 ahead.

You buy a bigger house, a newer car (and a bridge loan to finish paying off your old one), do some remodeling, put a couple of vacations and cruises and a whole lot of happy hours, on your capital one card.

With the new mortgage, car loan, revolving credit and loans to pay for all the other goodies, your monthly expenses go up to $16,000 a month – requiring a $200,000 a year income between you and your significant other – who, remember, are still earning $120,000 a year between you. So when you’ve burned through that $80 windfall, you’ll be coming up $80,000 a year in the red.

Your options to avoid insolvency, foreclosure, and repossession are:

a. Downsize, quick – go back to a smaller house, cheaper car, etc.

b. Keep going back to the casino and hope for another big score, and hope your significant other isn’t too stupid to know what a longshot that is.

c. Browbeat your significant other into earning more money so you don’t go bankrupt, and hope he or she doesn’t leave you. As the significant other why they hate children if they don’t ratchet their income up, but fast.

That’s exactly what the state legislature and Governor Klink have done; the pandemic left the state with a one time windfall that they have spent, and much more.

And you and I, the taxpayers of Minnesota, are the significant other.

So what are they going to do about it?

Well, they’re going to hope that you’re a dumb spouse that thinks you can bank on casino winnings. But they are just going to hold out for option C, and demand you pony up more.

That’s exactly what just happened.

If this were a marriage, you would call the big spender an abusive spouse.

So when you are the victim, what do you call the perpetrator?

They raised your taxes. They will raise them again next year, and the year after that. They will continue to raise your taxes until they are stopped. They will be stopped after y’all have sold your cars, downsized into habitrail rental units, and eat bugs.

And boy oh boy, out of those “casino winnings” we get to keep $260/$520 (single/joint) per filer.

I’m sure that Walz has a good reason for reducing the $1000/$2000 (single/joint) per filer that he promised on the campaign trail:
Millionaires like Scott and Matt don’t understand that working Minnesotans need $2,000 checks in their pockets.

They killed that deal for their self-interest.

But when @PeggyFlanagan and I are reelected, we’ll push to get this done.

I’d have more respect for them if they put the check on your nose, and made you sit there until they say “OK” before you take it to the bank…

Hell, that’s enough to pay your new sales and gas taxes, and delivery fees for at least 3 months! #Winning!

The DFL acted decisively and unapologetically when the wielded the power to achieve some things. Just like the GOP does when they get power.

Minnesota Republicans need to consider the effects of nominating a gubernatorial candidate who was unelectable. They’re going to need a candidate who can poach a few conservative democrats and independents. Good luck with the base….

Enlighten us, oh wise one. Who among Minnesota Republicans would win the approval of the Star Tribune, the teacher’s and public employees unions, the DFL vote harvesters assiduously collecting ballots and ‘helping’ mark them before stuffing them in the trunk of the car to be pulled out as needed?

    Who is this electable candidate?

Minnesota Republicans need to consider the effects of rampant vote/voter fraud, because that’s what has happened in the last 3 gubernatorial elections. The one before that was thrown by a petulant “Independent In Name Only”. The one before that, they didn’t cheat hard enough.

In my lifetime, there will never be another Republican governor in the state of MN. The leftist cheats will ensure it. As a population of Minnesotans, too many Republicans have too high a sense of morality to cheat as hard as the Democrats are willing to do.

When Democrat vote harvesters cheat, Democrat election officials are eager to county the ballots and Democrat county attorneys are uninterested.

If Republicans try vote harvesting, Democrat election officials will throw out all those ballots and Democrat county attorneys will declare another insurrection.

This is an elementary problem in game theory. When one side cheats, the solution is not for the other side to cheat as well. The solution is to knock over the game table and clout the cheater upside the head.

Minnesotans re-elected a supposed moderate DFL’r from rural Minnesota who became a radical once he was in office. This governor than mismanaged the George Floyd riots, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars of immediate damage to the state’s economy & potentially billions in lost growth in the cities. His policies also gave Minnesota the HIGHEST covid death rate in care homes of all the fifty states.
This governor was then re-elected by a wide margin.

You may have noticed more chatter from the Dems about expanding the SC, accompanied by attacks on the ethics of conservative — and only conservative — court members.
You may have wondered why, since the dems cannot expand the court w/o breaking a senate filibuster. Why waste the effort?
The answer is that they intend to make reforming the court an issue in 2024. If Biden’s approval rating are in the toilet, and his re-election is threatened, make the election about something else. “Re-elect Slow Joe and he & senate majority will make the court democratic. We will then do to the US what the DFL trifecta did in Minnesota.”

“Speaking of being abused on federal level. Know what we need? Send more billions to Uke [Ukraine] of course!”

This comment is built around the belief that the coming escalation of conflict (“the counteroffensive”) will continue to be some sort of attritional struggle. If it is, then both the nature of the casualties (a lot of them) and the timeline (prolonged conflict) will favor Russia. Russian belief that the West and in particular the US will “tire” of the conflict will remain in place. Putin’s will to persist will be rewarded. (Why would Biden even bother running for reelection?)

However, the US probably possesses weapons of exceptional capacity and sophistication to completely disrupt Russian military operations and put the Russian military in a state of chaos which would allow the Ukrainians to eject all Russian troops from the legally bordered Ukraine. If so, has the US shared these weapons in sufficient quantities to permit a new phase of battle which would not be attritional but would represent highly mobile and deep strike capable battle that would change the entire nature of the conflict.

If Ukraine possesses weapons of exceptional capabilities not yet fully revealed, then having Russian forces digging in on existing lines of conflict and having Russian forces concentrated on these lines with easily identifiable lines of communication from Russia itself would be highly desirable. Russian forces could first be cut-off in place and then destroyed from the rear to the forward lines. Can Russian forces hold cohesion when attacked from both rear and front? Are not Russian forces today just about where an aggressive new strategy would want them?

Both Biden and European leaders have great incentives to end this conflict this summer or by the fall at the latest. They will take more battlefield risks precisely because they face heightened and uncertain political risks in the 2024 election season.

If there is an adversary susceptible to being hit by a “rock ’em and sock ’em” military campaign, it is the Russians in Ukraine in 2024.

(from the article): “County officials say everyone had a chance to vote and all ballots were counted because those affected by the printers were taken to more sophisticated counters at election headquarters.”

    It is true. Sorry Kari.

I’ve used a prosumer level flatbad scanner to scan what appeared to be a completely sun-bleached paper white without any text on (ie the ink appeared to be gone) piece of paper and then use the scanner’s ability to discern the extremely small differences in reflected light which then were translated into 16-bit per R, G, and B values and some were different than others. Running some filters, like from within any version of even 1990’s Photoshop, to ‘expand’ the pixels numerical differences made the text magically reappear.

No episode of “Forensic Files” knowledge necessary either, hehe. Only of photography, sensor optical dynamic range, numerical digitization, filtering, hit ‘print’ to print the result, and that is about it.

Really, Russia and her apologists seem to have the notion that somehow, declaring war on a nation doesn’t allow the other nation to retaliate effectively.
