Shot in the Dark

Government Is The Things We Do Together, Stupidly And Incompetently

In the early days of the pandemic, an MIT scientist did what Americans have always done best; turned their ingenuity to solve a problem, fast, well and cheap.

She developed a fast, inexpensive Covid test – in an amasingly short time:

Within a few weeks, Bosch and her colleagues had a test that would detect coronavirus in 15 minutes and produce a red line on a little chemical strip. The factory where they were planning to make tests for dengue fever could quickly retool to produce at least 100,000 COVID-19 tests per week, she said, priced at less than $10 apiece, or cheaper at a higher scale

And then the FDA got involved:

In the months that followed, Bosch responded to repeated requests from FDA reviewers for data and studies. When the agency finally put out guidance that summer about the performance over-the-counter home tests needed to meet, officials required that such tests be nearly as sensitive as the lab tests used to definitively determine whether a patient has COVID-19.

That standard proved difficult to meet. Rapid tests are usually sensitive enough to detect viral antigens when someone has enough of them to be able to spread the disease. Such tests are not as good at picking up cases in either earlier or later stages of infection, when viral loads are lower.

Bosch’s tests missed the FDA’s high bar. It wasn’t until the spring of 2021 that much larger companies were able to design similar tests — relatively inexpensive, over-the-counter rapid tests — that the agency found acceptable.

“You could have antigen tests saving lives since the beginning of the pandemic,” said Bosch, sitting in her lab at MIT. “That’s the sad story.”

Sometimes it feels a little simplistic, chanting “government is what holds us back“, like some knee-jerk reductionist libertarian yahoo.

But it’s not really wrong.

US Army Creates Single Vaccine Against All COVID & SARS Variants, Researchers Say
    https://www.defenseone.com/technology/2021/12/us-army-creates-single-vaccine-effective-against-all-covid-sars-variants/360089/

I believe the goal of a universal vaccine is to target the harder to attack but more universal characteristics of a coronavirus. The vaccine is harder to make but the payoff is a broader range of immunization.

I don’t believe anyone has demonstrated the utility of widespread testing. Ask yourself what a person does who has a negative test, followed in a few days by a positive one, all the while being asymptomatic? What about the people who have been in contact with the person, who incidentally has been vaccinated, boosted and wears masks in indoor spaces? Do we all have to test and quarantine and cancel long planned trips? There is no end to the BS until there is a collective rejection of pseudo science denying it’s political.

In other words, the FDA is doing precisely what it was charted to do: protect big Pharma against upstarts.

To illustrate, consider this, the president could substantially lower drug prices and introduce multiple new safe inexpensive effective drugs into the market by ordering the FDA to approve in the US any drug already approved in the EU, Canada or Australia.

But that will not happen, because safe inexpensive effective drugs is not what the FDA is about.

Wife and I visited family in long term care facility. We both got Wu flu.

It’s the flu, and not even a bad one. Been 3 days; aches and mild congestion. Treated it with Vitamin C, D, Zinc, Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine.

Truthfully, I don’t think we really needed the latter two, but we had it on hand, and figured it wouldn’t hurt.

Since I work from home, and I don’t have any trips planned for the next couple weeks, I never even bothered to report it to HQ. We’re both 80% recovered.

I see Twat is going to Candace Owens for his medical advice😂

What half the country has been thinking and saying for a year: The Omicron wave is exposing the limits of COVID-19 restrictions, which are clearly failing. These include ferociously debated vaccine passports and masking policies that have done little, if anything, to tame skyrocketing numbers throttling the Northeast.

rAt squeeked: “What half the country has been thinking and saying for a year: The Omicron wave is exposing…”

“Omicron” has been around a year? Really? Lmao, no, you fucking tard. Not even a month.

California Officials Address First U.S. Omicron Case
    Dec. 1, 2021

“Through a sequencing process at U.C.S.F., has identified the first known case, and has formally made public knowledge of that case as it relates to the Omicron variant. This individual, who is a resident of San Francisco, was fully vaccinated…”

Imagine shooting the bug juice, risking major health threats, heart attack, stroke…even death and *still* getting the Wu Flu.

You pathetic vaxhole nitwits are highly amusing. Go get your booster, rAt, be a hero. Lmao.

Twat — >The Omicron waveCOVID-19 restrictions<, which are clearly failing.

Sheesh… and MBerg claims to have smart commenters. Now go sit down Twat…

CDC now recommends splitting up your quarantine over your two 15min breaks. If vaccinated, you get to pick which one of your two 15 minute breaks you want to quarantine during. 😉

Here is a great example of the incompetence of public officials:
Kamala Harris asking Wall Street CEOs, business leaders for advice: report
    https://nypost.com/2021/12/29/kamala-harris-asking-wall-street-ceos-for-advice/

The only legal duty that Wall Street CEO’s and business leaders have is to increase the value their companies.
That’s it. They have no legal or moral obligation to advise Harris of anything. If they lie to benefit their investors, that is 100% legal. If they give Harris good advice that costs their investors money, they can be sued.
Calling things by their true names is the first step on the path to sanity.

    LMAO…we all understand, rAt.

You’re a fucking idiot, rAt. In fact, being a fucking idiot is the only part of your background story anyone can believe is true.

    Flail more.

Here is my narrative the covid fiasco.
March 2020. Covid emerges in China and Europe. We are told that “everyone will get it.” The “Case Fatality Rate” of covid is said to be around 1.5%. In the US, this would mean about 5 million deaths. Elected officials, especially democrat governors, use this to declare “emergency powers” that allow them to act as legislators for a limited period of time, usually 30 days.
We, meaning “the public,” are told that the goal is to “flatten the curve,” that civil liberties will be curtailed for two weeks or so to slow the spread of the disease and keep medical services from being overwhelmed. We will all get the disease, the CFR will not change, the choices we make as individuals to interact with others or wear masks or use hand cleanser will make no difference, at the end. You will get covid, and there is a 1.5% chance that it will kill you.
Ever feel like one of those robot things in a sims game? That is how Democrat leaders think of human beings. You are a subject, a thing that does not do, but is done to.
What really happened was governors extended their “emergency powers” from 30 days to infinity. They personally chose what laws people would have to obey or be arrested, or their business closed or bankrupted. This caused an economic catastrophe, which justified the spending of literally trillions of borrowed dollars. They did this at the same time that they issued decrees that literally destroyed wealth. Food animals were slaughtered and their meat discarded. Profitable businesses were forced to close. People were prevented from going to work.
So here we are at the end of 2020. The madness has infected our political elite for nearly two years. No one is the better for it, other than Wall Street and big business.

Antivaxxers won’t listen — they do their own “research ” and use “information ” they alone have access to. The problem is they are still flooding the hospitals after they get sick.
