Hey, Mitch – why are Democrats and Big Left pushing to scrap the Electoral College and make the Senate a popularly-elected body?
Oh, why do you think?

Funny – I mean, in a coincidental way. I almost got into an argument yesterday with a Gen-Xer about the Electoral College. He’s against it. I asked him, in the sense of Chesterton’s Fence, how much he knew about why the EC came to be. Crickets.
I told him – and I don’t think this is an exaggeration – that there would be no USA if the EC had not been agreed to. To this, I also opined that scrapping the EC will ensure that there will be no USA in the future. Perhaps not immediately, but eventually.

Also interesting is that in trying to look up that Ulysses S Grant quote the other day, I came across another from him.
The most confident critics are generally those who know the least about the matter criticized.

Technically, didn’t the “democrats” win the argument about the Senate before 1920, and now they want to do the same thing, but worse, to the Presidency?
