Well, Robert the Bruce was a feckless noble who changed his positions quite a bit but in the end he did all right, mainly because he had Wallace to goad and inspire him. Should he get the chance, Romney may do all right as well – but who will be his Wallace?

(BTW, I found out two weeks ago I’m descended from the Bruce. Of course, so is just about everyone of lowland Scots descent this long after the fact, but hey…)
