News You Can, And May Well Need To, Use

What to do if you’re surrounded by a mob on the road?

Like most self-defense law, it’s a lot more complicated than you think.

While the lawyer is talking Washington State law (talk with a Minnesota defense attorney before assuming anything) they highlight the episode that happened in Minneapolis, by the Walker, a month or so ago.

Forewarned is forearmed.

I’ve read (here and other places) that the first rule of “what do you do if you get into a situation where you are carrying concealed and you have to use the weapon to defend yourself?” is: Try to avoid going to places where you might need to use a concealed carry weapon to defend yourself.

Along those lines, the first rule of “what do you do if you are surrounded by a mob of street-blocking protestors?” is: Avoid going to places where street-blocking protestors might congregate.

If your job requires you to traverse these locations, that’s one thing.

If your recreational or dining choices cause you to traverse these locations, that’s on you.

Since the time that St Floyd of Fentanyl uttered his last “I can’t breathe”, I have ventured into the city of Minneapolis exactly 2 times, for recreational competition events at the convention center (I was on a team competing in those events). I no longer am on that team so I have no reason to ever set foot in Mpls again, short of having to deal with something at Hennepin County Gov’t Center, or (God forbid) a lawyer.

(I also once put two lives at risk just before Thanksgiving 2022 and drove down Lake Street from Minnehaha westwards. A relative visiting from out of state wanted to see if there were any signs left over of destruction from the 2020 riots. There weren’t many indications of the destruction left but there were a few. I forgot about going eastwards for a couple blocks so she could see the former 3rd precinct station.)

Yes, there are a ton of restaurants in Mpls I would love to try and a few I would love to revisit. However, I value my safety more than I value new and exciting dining experiences. While they might not have the fun of a neat and cool (and new to me) dining experience, there are plenty of places out in the burbs, from casual sit down, to “Dinner and drinks for 2 means $100-150 before tip” where I don’t have to fear for my legal, financial, or physical safety.

I’m with Bill, I don’t go to Minneapolis, but I wonder if that’s sufficient? Should we be wary of geography, or demographics? Is it safe to go to the State Fair? Valley Fair? The Renaissance Festival?

Makes me think of Derbyshires article on statistics in Takis magazine titled The Other Talk.

Bigman, sadly “Avoid going places where you might need to defend yourself with a concealed carry weapon” usually includes anywhere where a large gathering of people might congregate on foot. I think the places where lots of people congregate with with lots of movement involved, are places that tend to attract bad actors. Don’t forget the MoA.

I haven’t been to the state fair since 2014 when I blew $140 in 4 hours.

ValleyFair may be fun but I’m getting old enough that my body most likely will no longer enjoy being flung around like that.

RenFest? Boring. Last time I went there, 75% of the booths were either for leatherwork, ceramics, or swords and daggers. Puke and Snot were as enjoyable as they always have been, but IMO, that’s not worth the drive, parking hassle, and money. Jacques ze Whipper was not yet a thing last time I was at the RenFest (and I don’t know if he ever shows up at the MN one)

Sporting events (which I will never attend)? Maybe, but for the most part, most people are seated for most of the event other than arrival, departure, snacks and restrooms. Yeah, you get drunken and rowdy fans who get over-exuberant defending the honor of their heroes, but most places like that don’t allow weapons other than fists and feet. I don’t recall ever hearing about a shooting/stabbing at a major league game.

These effing disgusting losers. I would run them over once they started threatening me and suffer the consequences after. These fokking mpls leftists need to be severely injured or worse. Because that is what they want to do to you.

And yes, I do not go to Mpls much anymore. I used to go there very often and it sucks the LEFTISTS have destroyed it. Well not completely but the residents vote for these sloths so I have little in common with them. So disgusting. And I blame the ugly 85yr old looking WALZ for most of this.

I learned long ago that Minneapolis has no interest in helping motorists trapped by mobs. I got stuck in the middle of a “Critical Mass” demonstration downtown at 5 pm. I was headed for a wedding reception. I called 911 and the operator was completely blase about it. They knew all about it and couldn’t give two squats. Fortunately the protesters weren’t out for blood, but imagine a confused older person driving into this and accidentally bumping a protester. No mercy shown to the unenlightened.

The thing that comes to mind for me is how many Minesotans do need to do business there from time to time, and that the degenerates of the city don’t seem to be satisfied with that. So at a certain point, Minnesota is going to need to do what Indiana did for Gary about 20 years back; send in the state police to try to restore order. Next step after that is to eliminate home rule for cities that don’t prosecute serious crimes.

I like the idea of mostly staying out, especially since most of what used to be cool about the cities is gone, but there are realities that don’t allow one to just stay away 100%.

That would require a governor who views traffic-disrupting/violent protestors as a problem. Our current governor obviously does not view them as a problem. This will not change until we have a Republican governor with some balls. And as long as we have rampant, uncontested, and unaccountable vote/voter fraud/mail-in ballots, we will not have a Republican governor in this state.

Having moved here from the east coast four years ago, I had a good seat to view the George Floyd festivities. My friends from back east would contact me concerned that the celebrants would sweep over my neighborhood, entangling me in the revelry. It was a relief for them to learn that my neighborhood was 14 miles from the epicenter and that I had the Minnesota river between me and them.
