Regarding the “free school lunch”, I’m reminded of when I realized that with WIC, SNAP, subsidized school breakfast and lunch, and the like, with each program targeting a certain portion of school calories, that the total government effort for food was most likely far in excess of daily caloric needs–and therefore it was no surprise that food aid was being sold for things like drugs, and it is no surprise that the chief health malady of the poor is obesity and the results thereof.
A side note is that on that tray, I can vaguely make out a piece of apple, but there is nothing whatsoever on that tray that resembles a vegetable. If I wanted to play the witch from Hansel and Gretel and fatten kids for slaughter, I could do little better than to serve them meals like that.

My take on the notion of free school lunch for all is that poor or rich, parents need to feed their children. With WIC, SNAP, and the like, that should not be a challenge. Failure to help children get a good breakfast before coming to school should really be an opportunity for social services to get involved, not for schools to cover for bad parenting.
Regarding the issue of pregnant ten year olds, it’s well known that a huge portion of the fathers are adults, and hence the intercourse that caused the pregnancy is statutory or even forcible rape, and that abortion clinics are well known to hide this fact in their required official reports. My guess is that if we prosecuted obvious cases of statutory rape aggressively, we would end up with a lot less pregnant ten year olds.

as regards abortions for 10 yr olds that emery believes is a problem, my thought, that I’ve communicated to my elected representatives over the years is this brutally efficient process. No matter the provider the abortion should be free for the minor, the state will pick up the cost, with this caveat, that samples of the DNA of the mother AND the fetus should be collected and provided to the authorities for eventual prosecution of the father, so no DNA sample would mean no reimbursement to the provider. Permission to collect the DNA wont be required because the pregnancy is prima facie proof of a crime and reporting the DNA/Crime will be a legal requirement that failure to meet results in an immediate suspension of license for the medical professional and the facility. Additionally the clock for statute of limitations on rape will start when there is a paternal match with the DNA, so every couple years the rape squad can check CODIS for cold case matches in addition to web site like Ancestry.com. This will put pedophiles on notice that sooner or later they will be caught.
I agree that having mountebanks like County Attorney Moriarity on the prosecution end of things will mean only white pedophiles will be convicted – but its a start. -

My wife informs me that free breakfast for all has already been in existence. Maybe lunch wasn’t? In any case, the progressives continue to burn through excuses as to why some kids underperform in school. The real reason must never be uttered. Next year they’ll think of something else. I do have a suggestion for ISD 191: stop letting students use their cell phones in class. That is all.

Golfdoc, free lunch for the poor and lower middle class has been around for well over half a century, and free breakfast has been around at least since the 1990s for low income students. My late mother worked in school food service for about 15 years.
