Last Friday you played an interview with Norman Orenstein on your noon show. Orenstein is to academia what Lori Sturdevant is to journalism; a myopic scold for a very defined ideology, who after a career of being hailed as a genius by his own echo chamber can not possibly conceive of there being a rational alternative.

Orenstein’s major points:

The national conversation is getting very uncivil – due to the right. Not the left.
While he used to support the electoral college, now he does not.
The conservative alternative media – Orenstein calls it “tribal” media, in the tone of a British grandée in colonial India – is at fault for everything.

Thanks, MPR. We don’t get enough of that from the local media.

By the way, MPR? Why did you book Orenstein? Self-affirmation therapy for your distraught audience?

Sarah McCammon has put it this way: “The alt-right movement, which has been associated with white nationalism.”

“White nationalist” is the most concise description.

A few days ago, on another forum, a commenter said bias at the NY Times isn’t a big deal because it is bleeding subscribers and advertisers. The problem is that the NY Times sets the agenda for news and political media across the country — online, on the air, and in print. If the NY Times says Bannon is a nazi, he will not be able to talk to the main stream press without being asked if he is a nazi, what does he think about being called a nazi, etc.
Guilt by association is an old Lefty trick.

I’ve seen this advocacy of political terrorism where I live. In my town, there was a guy who used to park his truck in downtown Hilo with a giant, 4×8 foot placard saying vile things about Obama — “first Muslim president”, Obama is a traitor, etc.
For a while, there was at least one letter to the editor each week describing the words and images as ‘violent.’ They do this because, of course, violence calls for violence. The Politico editor straight out suggested using baseball on people he disagrees with, but who have committed no violent acts, as far as I know. The editor didn’t even accuse Spencer & his pals of committing violence. Hirsh was advocating violent attacks on people who had never done him, or anyone else, harm.

Overtime rules are set both by the feds and the states. What has changed to “erode” overtime regs?

Trump spoke with NY Times people yesterday. Their are a lot snippets going around about the conversation, of the “OMG Trump is a nazi!” variety. Here is the full context of Trump’s remarks regarding the alt.right:

BAQUET: So, I’d love to hear you talk about how you’re going to manage that group of people who actually may not be the larger group but who have an expectation for you and are angry about the country and its — along racial lines. My first question is, do you feel like you said things that energized them in particular, and how are you going to manage that?

TRUMP: I don’t think so, Dean. First of all, I don’t want to energize the group. I’m not looking to energize them. I don’t want to energize the group, and I disavow the group. They, again, I don’t know if it’s reporting or whatever. I don’t know where they were four years ago, and where they were for Romney and McCain and all of the other people that ran, so I just don’t know, I had nothing to compare it to.

But it’s not a group I want to energize, and if they are energized I want to look into it and find out why.

What we do want to do is we want to bring the country together, because the country is very, very divided, and that’s one thing I did see, big league. It’s very, very divided, and I’m going to work very hard to bring the country together.

I mean, I’m somebody that really has gotten along with people over the years. It was interesting, my wife, I went to a big event about two years ago. Just after I started thinking about politics.

And we’re walking in and some people were cheering and some people were booing, and she said, you know, ‘People have never booed for you.’

I’ve never had a person boo me, and all of a sudden people are booing me. She said, that’s never happened before. And, it’s politics. You know, all of a sudden they think I’m going to be running for office, and I’m a Republican, let’s say. So it’s something that I had never experienced before and I said, ‘Those people are booing,’ and she said, ‘Yup.’ They’d never booed before. But now they boo. You know, it was a group and another group was going the opposite.

No, I want to bring the country together. It’s very important to me.

Trump wants everyone to cheer him, but it’s never going to happen. That is a lesson I believe will be slow in coming to him, but eventually he will get it, and he will come to the right conclusion.

I can get pretty nasty when I want to, but I’m unique in that among conservatives. No one can get as nasty, really despicable, as a reprobate leftist. One of their favorite tactics is to drag family members into the fray; demeaning wives is a specialty. Trump probably loves Melania, but more importantly, parading with a smoking hot woman half his age carries the same message obesity used to have for wealthy and powerful men in the 18th century.

Demeaning Melania demeans Trump’s success and Trump is a man who holds a grudge like a miser holds a greenback. After a few months of reading the hocker fest the left is conducting on social media, Trump’s criticism of the alt-right will be it’s too meek.

well you got me there, being as I’m gravel road then long driveway rural, I’m the poor kid in the section since some of my neighbors have cylinder counts in the 50s and one has 73 that I know of.

Kel, You got me thinking about my cylinder index. I live rural, I’m in the 50+ cylinder count with multiple Harleys (3), 4 wheel drive trucks (3), car, garden tractor/mower, snow blowers, weed whips, chain saws, etc. I service them all myself, probably why my hands are always grease stained. I’m wondering if that makes me a country bumpkin, or maybe I’m a redneck?
