Inevitable

DeSantis tops Trump in a new poll – and not by a little bit.

Emphasis added by me:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) leads former President Trump by 23 points among Republicans in a hypothetical GOP presidential primary, according to a poll released Tuesday.

The USA Today-Suffolk University poll found that 56 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning voters prefer DeSantis, while only 33 percent would support Trump. More than 60 percent said they want a nominee who will continue Trump’s policies but is not Trump, while 31 percent want the former president to run.

I don’t care about mean tweets. I do care very much about slashing regulation (and, since Trump didn’t do it, spending as well) and acting in the nation’s best interest.

I’m not interested in relitigating the 2020 election; rooting out the corruption that does exist, sure; barbering on about remedies that aren’t anywhere in the Consitution, not so much.

Most of all? I want to force the Democrats to defend themselves, their record, their squatting on American democracy, in 2024. Without Trump to deflect to, they fail.

Trump is the greatest gift that politics has ever given – to Democrats.

Trump’s time has come and gone. He was absolutely necessary in 2016. I doubt if anyone else could have beaten Hillary.
Whenever I read anything by a #nevertrumper, I consider that if they had their way, we’d be in the middle of the 2nd Hillary administration, with a solidly liberal Supreme Court.

I understand why Trump will never be president again. We still have to address the forces arrayed against him and the horrible things that were done to Trump in the name of Our Precious Democracy. If we don’t address it, the process of transforming us from citizens to subjects will continue. And there’s little reason to believe DeSantis or any other Great Man will save us.

mister d, you are looking backwards
    you should be looking forward
if republicans just work a little harder
get out the vote will totally overcome
    manufactured votes

It won’t matter which Republican(s) run. The Communist party, formerly known as the Democrat party, will gaslight, lie, call them literally Hitler and manufacture sex scandals to derail them. Simple minded droogs like Bot Boy and Paddywhacker will believe everything they are told.

Who is on record saying they built the most comprehensive voter fraud organization in history? Vote harder!

Man, the naivete. Yes! That’s a solid foundation on which to build the next campaign for whomever it is.

60% want his policies but not Trump. Tell me Republicans are craven whiners who deserve to be led by an oligarchy of One World Democrats with an addled political nobody as its figurehead without telling me that Republicans are craven whiners who deserve to be led by an oligarchy of One World Democrats with an addled political nobody as its figurehead.

And just so’s we’re clear, DeSantis is just fine to me.

I dunno, boss — Paddy/Peeve/Penigma probably does believe what he posts, but the troll deals exclusively in cut-and-paste sophistry.

To paraphrase Erwin Chargaff’s statement about Crick and Watson’s fame after their discovery of the DNA Double Helix:

“It is merely a sign of how late in the day it has become for the GOP that a political pygmy like DeSantis casts such a long shadow.”

Geez, Mr D… cut-and-paste sophistry… and the very next comment by one of the Emerys.

I think the big challenge here is to persuade a bunch of Republicans, many of whom became Republicans due to Trump, that we can reject Trump’s excesses while keeping some of the things he did right. We can count on the left and the media (but I repeat myself) to try and obscure this, and sadly, a certain portion of the electorate will fall for it.

Regarding vote fraud, my take is that, absent a total state, you can get a 0.5% shift or so in totals in close elections, but if you persuade people that their interests are not in line with those of the Democrats, they will not be able to close the gap with vote fraud.

Get good candidates, get the message out, we will have some success. It may also require us to develop other ways of getting that message out–I am not holding my breath for Musk to be our bulwark for fairness on Twitter, and I am definitely not holding my breath for Merrick Garland to prosecute people in the FBI and elsewhere who seem to have been directing Twitter’s censorship program.

Maybe we get in the habit of talking with our neighbors?

When all they have left is name calling . . .
Let me demonstrate the lameness of the troll:
“It is merely a sign of how late in the day it has become for the Democrats that a political pygmy like Joe Biden casts such a long shadow. ”
or: “It is merely a sign of how late in the day it has become for the Democrats that a political pygmy like Newsom casts such a long shadow. ”
    Or, again:
“It is merely a sign of how late in the day it has become for the Democrats that a political pygmy like Bernie Sanders casts such a long shadow. ”

Emery has long since lost the ability to post anything meaningful.

MBerg seems to think DeSantis is Trump with brains and without the drama.

Trump with brains and no drama is no Trump.

The troll’s toolbox is pretty limited.

Did they poll the average Republican voter or did they poll the Republican voters who show up to vote in primaries? Because those are not the same folks.

Any poll 23 months out is beyond useless. But I have to admit — it’s gonna be entertaining to watch these two attack each other.

UMMP – I only see the Emery posts second-hand when quoted by others, but the “political pygmy” line caught my eye. In the fantasy-bot world it’s always “opposite day”. Therefore the phrase, “They might be giants” comes to mind.

Which appropriately brings to mind “The C*****ists Have the Music” by They Might Be Giants.
