The Math

The Biden administration did its unearned victory lap yesterday, in of the most catastrophically bad speeches I’ve ever seen – a formidable bar indeed for our senescent president.

But the worst part?

The Administration brags about getting around 120,000 people out in the “biggest airlift in history” (not even close to the Berlin Airlift 73 years ago, but whatever).

Ed Morrissey notes:

We know the evacuation carried out perhaps 6,000 Americans. Add in 8,500 SIVs, to whom we owe some degree of safety, and who will likely make better Americans than 30% of our current electorate.

Let’s further assume that some of them brought out family; let’s say it’s 25,000 as a generous guesstimate.

That means about 35% of the evacuees are the people who actually needed to get out.

That’s like the Dunkirk evacuation bringing back 50,000 British solders, 25,000 French troops, and 250,000 Belgian farmers who happened to make it to the beaches.

    OK, if only about a third of those who got out are U.S. citizens or actual allies of ours, who are the rest? I seem to remember that there are a couple of groups in Afghanistan–we can call them the “Taliban”, “ISIS”, and “Al Qaida”–that have done us a little harm before, and it strikes me that all H*** could break loose if they get a merry band or two into our country.

    The first two flights out, were crammed full of fighting age men. A couple of women and children, but overwhelmingly young males. Which red states, besides Texas, did the anti American administration fucks send them to?

    “And there is a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture,” he told Ghani, and urged him tot give a press conference with Afghanistan’s prominent political figures backing a new military strategy.

    “That will change perception, and that will change an awful lot I think,” Biden said.

    Trump/Pompeo negotiated the deal with the Taliban to withdraw, and I think most thought it was only a matter of time before the Kabul regime collapsed after a pull-out, and that collapse would lead to a last- minute panicked evacuation. Biden obviously agreed with Trump’s withdrawal strategy, and the mess we saw on TV was the consequence of implementing that decision.

    So, if you didn’t want to see the government collapse or the evacuation, then you’re basically saying we should have stayed in Afghanistan. I don’t see how you can have it both ways. The politicians will play their silly little partisan games, but it’s basically a political point-scoring charade that cons the public into thinking wars can be neat and orderly. It isn’t and never will be.

    The whole “abandoned” narrative is already so tired.

    Trump’s followers seem happy to be gaslit this way, though. Their support seems to be an article of faith, not reason. It was apparent they had no clue of what the Trump administration had actually done regarding Afghanistan over the past couple of years. They just took Trump hook, line, and sinker when he claimed he would’ve run it better.

    I credit Trump’s intent to get out of Afghanistan. But the idea from conservatives that Trump would have done a better job is so absurd, it sounds like satire. Trump basically lit a bag of dog turds on fire and rang Joe Biden’s doorbell. Biden kept the promise that Trump made, but then abandoned when he got elected.

    This is where LtCol Schiller comes in. He’s walking the talk, he’s got the cred, and he is fucking done with the woke military.

    We need just a couple more guys to search their conscience, and step forward. As long as they are cared for (and from all accounts, Schiller is doing fine), they will come.

    There are plenty of cops willing to shun reprobate leftist leadership (albeit for strictly non-altruistic reasons). If the military joins in, we have the legitimate beginnings of a revolution.

    Yes, Emery, I’m sure Trump snuck back in the White House and forced Biden, at gunpoint, to tell the former President of Afghanistan to lie about the situation on the ground when he knew it was dire. Trump moreover compelled Biden to withdraw air support that Biden knew was necessary. I’m sure Trump forced Biden, at gunpoint, to “forget” (oopsie!) to get U.S. citizens and weaponry out before withdrawing military forces.

    I’m sure Trump forced Biden to neglect doing adequate background checks of those being evacuated, so that a full two thirds of those evacuated are not in fact people who would have been hunted down by the Taliban, and may be Taliban themselves.

    Any other horse manure you’d like us to believe, Emery? There is adequate room for political differences, but there’s a difference between that and simple denial of reality. When even the Washington Post says you’re full of it, maybe you’d better reconsider your positions.

    BAGRAM, Afghanistan (AP) — The U.S. left Afghanistan’s Bagram Airfield after nearly 20 years by shutting off the electricity and slipping away in the night without notifying the base’s new Afghan commander, who discovered the Americans’ departure more than two hours after they left, Afghan military officials said.
    Afghanistan’s army showed off the sprawling air base Monday, providing a rare first glimpse of what had been the epicenter of America’s war to unseat the Taliban and hunt down the al-Qaida perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks on America.
    The U.S. announced Friday it had completely vacated its biggest airfield in the country in advance of a final withdrawal the Pentagon says will be completed by the end of August.
    “We (heard) some rumor that the Americans had left Bagram … and finally by seven o’clock in the morning, we understood that it was confirmed that they had already left Bagram,” Gen. Mir Asadullah Kohistani, Bagram’s new commander said.

    And in the leaked transcript of Biden’s January 26th phone call with Ghani, Biden told Ghani:
    You clearly have the best military, you have 300,000 well-armed forces versus 70-80,000 and they’re clearly capable of fighting well, we will continue to provide close air support, if we know what the plan is and what we are doing.
    Close air support? From Bagram, maybe?
    What an f’n moron. I don’t blame Ghani at all from running like Hell from the taliban. Ghani knew that Biden was deep in dementia.
