Behind Closed Doors

J-Po at the Corner on the closed door session:

I think the Democratic move today in the Senate is politically canny. In the past five days, Democrats have seen the political momentum shifting the president's way with shocking speed. They don't know what to do about the inspired Alito nomination, which they almost certainly can't filibuster.
Oh, yeah - and Bush's approval rating jumped six points, and is trending up.

In other words, all that krowing was premature:

And what do they have going for them right now but Scooter-gate? So by pulling this unprecedented maneuver with Section 21, they're staging a counterassault against the president's effort to change the political story of the moment. This is the sort of thing to make the Huffington Puffington people shriek with happiness and the Kossians to chortle with joy
The Dems' fortunes have taken a swing this week - thank goodness. But it's not all blue skies for the good guys:
And unfortunately, what the GOP has to respond to the maneuver is Bill Frist, who's a great and noble human being but a stinko political leader.
Doesn't it always seem to come back to Frist's inability to drive his caucus?

Since Miers is out of the way, maybe we could find a way to squeese Frist out, too?

Just a thought.

Frist should have just shrugged his shoulders, chuckled, and said the "Dems want to throw a temper tantrum in private, so we'll accomodate them." His own tantrum gave the stunt more credibility then it deserved.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid Mitch..

"The President is trending up", perhaps if you mean his disapproval.

CBS news poll out today, all time low in that poll..and regardless of the poll you look at, he's either at his all-time lowest, or very near it, within a margin of error.

The flat fact is the extremist positions and "we'll appoint anyone no matter how unqualified because we don't think the government should do anything any way" attitude are wearing thin.

Crowing (or Krowing), hardly.. I don't think the Democrats have a competent leader to put it together, but the American people are tired of the gimmicks, lies, and incompetence. Bill Frist is not your problem, your vapid ideas are your problem.

Solve drug costs (an inflationary system), by throwing money at it.. yep.. that's a great idea.

Anyway, as I said elsewhere, you'll always have a seat at the table because money can buy a lot of forgetfulness, but we'ved tried conservatism for 25 years, we are 7 Trillion in debt, American wages have flat-lined, and the only boat lifted in this tide has been that of those at the very top. Americans work more hours, have less free time, have higher stress, have a greater disparity between earning power and home prices.. the list is legion.. You all believe give the money to those at the top and they'll share it.. yep.. by building jobs in China..

When will you folks get back to being real conservatives?
