We're Number 291! Or 345!

Saint Paul comes in #291 on the list of the safest cities in the US according to the NYTimes.

Amy Klobuchar's Minneapolis comes in at 345 - behind stereotypically crime-ridden cities like Philadelphia (#343) and, funniest of all, Houston (#325), the city that Minneapolis liberals tut-tut about turning into if they don't repel the Republican agenda. Minneapolis comes in only five spots ahead of Newark, NJ (#350), and eight ahead of Washington DC (#353).

Detroit can rejoice; the Motor City came in at #370, one ahead of last-place Saint Louis.

I lived in El Paso for a couple of years. The day we arrived in town we witnessed a traffic accident. The car at fault took off down the street. We went to find the driver of the other car to offer ourselves as witnesses. He had already removed his license plates and vanished.

Nobody at the scene - this was in a busy parking lot - thought this was unusual.

Having bars on the windows of your home was the rule - regardless of neighborhood.

El Paso scored 231 places better than Minneapolis.

But hey, at least we (barely) beat out Gary,IN and Flint, MI.

A tranquil little 4,000 sq mile island in the middle of the Pacific. Nothing disturbs the peace other than the crash of waves and the occasional cry of a myna bird. Except for a riot after a kick-boxing match:
"A bottle exploded on the roof of a police car. A Shooters Bar & Grill employee was maced by a would-be patron. Security staff and police ducked flying bottles. Fists flew, ambulances showed up, and the mob scene dragged on for two and half hours."
