Cute, but could you imagine the cinema traditions that would have got started if Chaplin had moved the camera around that much? I'm thinking Popcorn tubs that doubled as barf buckets, that kind of thing.

How *did* popcorn become associated with movies, anyway? "Let's introduce a noisy foodstuff into the mix!" Makes sense to me.

Don't movie theaters actually make more profit from the sale of concssions than from ticket sales?

As far as how it was introduced in the first place, I seem to recall reading that before theaters started to sell concessions, theater-goers would buy it from street vendors and bring it in with them (and sometimes leave during the show to get more). Some enterprising theater owner probably saw an opportunity to make some money by providing an additional service for his customers and eventually it became the industry norm.

They make the *vast* majority of their profit from concessions. Most of the ticket proceeds go to renting the movie (ie, to the studio/distributors). Concessions and other such goodies are where the theatre owner gets their income.
