Via the City Pages, PETA's (not-entirely) naked lunch; an anti-meat protester arrested for a (chilly) demonstration (photos marginally unsafe for work - or not, depending on your workplace).
So let me get this straight: PETA stands for ethical treatment of living organisms. But they send a chick from Los Angeles to sit, naked, on Nicollet Mall in the middle of January in Minnesota...
...oh, never mind.

At least they gave her a comfy little mat to sit on...
Posted by: Jen W. at January 19, 2006 11:24 AMI bet she'd like my meat.
Yes, I'm 12 years old.
Posted by: Ryan at January 19, 2006 11:34 AMMitch, you're surprised they sent someone from LA to do the protest? No local would be stupid enough to pull that stunt in January.
Posted by: nerdbert at January 19, 2006 12:12 PMWow, I'm convinced now. I'll never eat meat again. Leather belt and shoes? Ugh! Protests like these are like so totally effective.
Posted by: Kermit at January 19, 2006 12:56 PMI'm not so sure we don't have any locals who wouldn't do that.
Remember we've got tons of idiots at Macalister, UofM, St. Kate's, etc.
Posted by: badda-blogger at January 19, 2006 01:35 PMMoonbats... the other white meat.
Posted by: Nancy at January 19, 2006 01:55 PMZygi Wilf hires a PR firm from LA to promote and sell Zygi Town. Nonmonkey does column and KQ does parody (Nonmonkey is parody, but thats another post) about Zygi not looking through the Yellow Pages for good Minnesoooooda PR firm. Will there be the same criticism of PETA for outsourcing?
Posted by: Tom at January 19, 2006 02:02 PMI'm suddenly craving a loin roast and some soup bone...(yeah, I'm 12 too).
It would have been fun to sit down next to her with a little steak tartar or some veal scalapini.
Posted by: Nordeaster at January 19, 2006 02:13 PMNordeaster: "It would have been fun to sit down next to her with a little steak tartar or some veal scalapini." Maybe. I'd just cover her with A1.
Lots of A1.

Posted by: Paul at January 19, 2006 02:59 PMI'm a member of PETT. People for the Ethical Treatment of Tofu. But I have yet to figure out how we can use a naked chick to promote our cause.
Posted by: peter at January 19, 2006 03:18 PMOr maybe I'm a member of PETNC. People for the Ethical Treatment of Naked Chicks.
Posted by: peter at January 19, 2006 03:23 PMI've got eight inches of ethics for her right here.
Posted by: Geoff at January 19, 2006 03:34 PMWow.. 2 really intelligent posts, but I'll give Ryan a pass, at least he recognizes his silliness.
As for PETA, I'm constantly amazed at how much pub a meaningless organization gets. It lets you create a boogey-man, without there actually being a boogey-man.
Naked from LA, there are lots of good looking chiquita's from LA, I'd probably donate to PETA if they promised to ONLY expose their members "concerns" :), and YES that was juvenile, but I'm not going to get really upset about nearly anything PETA does, they just aren't worth the print/space/time.
As for vegitarianism, given their devotion to Darwin (or even God assuming some are Christians/Jewish/Muslim), it seems that survival of the fittest allows those darned wolves/lions/buzzards to eat meat, and it's a critical component to the survival of healthy species, so I have no issue with eating meat, I'm not sure how their objections jibe with the their other beliefs.
That said, there probably are better ways than veal pens, but we decided to hitch our wagons to corporate farming, thus dooming the family farm, because we like cheap(er) food prices. Unless and until the citizens decide the prefer free-range chickens, organic tomatoes, and non-steroidal beef, PETA will simply remain a bunch of naked cooks howling at a wind, a wind which they'd be perfectly comfortable with if the abuser had 4 paws rather than 2.

Posted by: Mikey at January 19, 2006 04:34 PMok, that should be kooks, not cooks, but cooks is kinda funny.. naked cooks, a double entendre' when none was intended...I think I'm smartest when I'm screwing up.

Most everyone is.
Posted by: The Entire World at January 19, 2006 04:53 PMI wonder why Cho hasn't stripped down and protested outside of the multi-million dollar headquarters of PETA after its employees slaughtered dozens of kitties and puppies in the back of a van, after telling shelter workers they'd find new homes for the animals, then dumped the still twitching corpses of the kitties/puppies into trash cans.
Posted by: Red Ryderz at January 20, 2006 12:33 AMI wonder if that blanket she had wrapped around her was wool? Any leather belts or shoes on her companions? Any synthetics (manufacturing synthetics pollutes which hurts the little bunnies)?
"ok, that should be kooks, not cooks, but cooks is kinda funny"
Mikey - that had to have been the funniest Freudian slip I've heard or seen in ages!
