Best. News Conference. Ever.

Louisiana National Guard Adjutant-General Russell Honore, as transcribed by Generalissimo Duane, whacks a bunch of bubbleheaded bleach-blond reporters on the knuckles:

Male reporter: General, a little bit more about why that's happening this time, though, and did not have that last time...

Honore: You are stuck on stupid. I'm not going to answer that question. We are going to deal with Rita. This is public information that people are depending on the government to put out.

I heard this yesterday on Hugh's show and almost drove off the road laughing.

Duane continues:

I think the General just started a movement, and he may not even realize it. Every time a reporter, in any situation, starts spinning, or completely misses the point, they need to be peppered with, "Don't get stuck on stupid."

I'd pay money to see David Gregory in the White House Press Corps foaming at the mouth over something trivial Scott McClellan said, and have McClellan say, "David, you're stuck on stupid. I'm not going to answer that."

A lot of us would pay big money for that.

My fearless prediction: Expect a story in the Columbia Journalism Review condemning the chilling effect on democracy when news figures treat moronic reporters like morons, and demanding action to restore journalists to their accustomed priest-like status.

I agree 100 percent! Can't reporters be just a *little* more respectful? Too bad Jeff Guckert lost his press pass. He was a real "Bulldog."

Posted by: angryclown at September 21, 2005 03:12 PM

OK, had "Two Hours and 19 minutes until Guckert comes up" in the pool?

Vobo, you have it backwards. Too many of the "elite" reporters think they're entitled to downright deference. The likes of a Rumsfeld or an Honore give them fits, because they don't treat 'em like they're petty royalty.

Which should be fine to any reporter who's not a complete solopsistic, delusional moron. We know a few of them, right?

Of COURSE we do!

Another prediction... it's only a few days before Gen'l Honore's catch phrase is coopted by the left. Kos will be using it by next week.

Yes, I love it! Someone will do a study on how the way politicians answer questions hinders debate and harms the ability of the fourth estate (cough, cough) to hold government accountable (cough, cough again). Who are these people kidding? We know the only people who hold government accountable are fiscal conservatives.

Fearless prediction #9987: a deep and abiding curiosity regarding all things Honore will be satisfied in the coming months. We'll soon know if he's had any speeding tickets, whether he paid his fines on time, and if he was respectful to the judge while in court.

And that'll be just the beginning.

Kevin said,

"We know the only people who hold government accountable are fiscal conservatives."

Well Kev, You'd better get on the stick because you "fiscal conservatives" have done a piss poor job over the last five years.

Are you denying that the reporters question was valid, or just the timing of it.

I'd say poor form on the timing, but spot on for the question itself.

JOURNALIST/MANWHORE GUCKERT/GANNON takes his "former colleagues" to task:

Spokesman tells reporter: "Don't get stuck on stupid"

I know it will never be White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan to say such a thing to a reporter, but some of my former colleagues deserve it. The no-nonsense speaker in this case is none other than Lt. General Russel Honore, commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, who doesn't seem to be in the mood for the antics of a know-it-all journalist.

Watching the left denigrate gay Republicans/conservatives/ for being gay is surreal.

Although not much different than their attitude towards black Republicans/conservatives.

Doug,

Fiscal conservatives have not been in Washington this past five years. It's one of the reasons I was a Forbes guy in 2000, until the convention. Bush has his upsides - thank God he won both times - but fiscal conservatism isn't one of them.

Flash,

I thought the question was *adequate*, but the timing was not just off, but deeply inappropriate. Frankly, if I'd have been in Honore's shoes I'd have called in an air strike. Maybe napalm.

(Kidding, kidding...)

Angryclown,

Interesting bit of cutting and pasting, indeed.

The point is...?

Sav,

I keep trying to ask gays why they put up with the orientational-based ugliness the Democrats *constantly* indulge in when dealing with gay GOPers.

(crickets).

Search me.
