Commitment

The National Review Editorial Board calls for a serious committment to New Orleans on the part of the GOP; holding the '08 national convention there (and, naturally, any rebuilding necessary to achieve that):

Critics will call it a transparent attempt to burnish the party's image after the Bush administration "failed" with the initial relief effort. The gesture would, however, reflect the genuine sentiment of Republicans who, like all Americans, want to help a city facing such a bleak future. We heard similar complaints — easily brushed off — about the Republicans' coming to New York for last year's convention.

No doubt there will be logistical problems. There were logistical problems putting on big events in New Orleans even in the best of times. But the Republicans held their convention there in 1988, and should return 20 years later. They will go to a city that then will, no doubt, still be scarred by the catastrophe of the last week, but back on its feet, and a perfect venue for a testament to the American spirit.

Not a bad idea.

I hope, for the Republican party's sake, that the damage done from attempting to elude the 9/11 investigations, creating cause for war in Iraq, making voting difficult for the poorest and least able, hiring inexperienced people to carry out the most important tasks of federal government, and never, never, never following through after threatening to fire those people working for Bush who break laws (and that number is rapidly climbing) - I hope the next three years get better, but I don't think it will happen. The damage is too far along. When the leadership is not leading, you get rid of them - and, no, I don't mean Pat Robertson style! Perhaps then, the party can begin to recover. The money that would have been spent to put the plans in place for the convention should just be spent on rebuilding New Orleans and the lives of the people there.

Teena, I know that Mitch tries to run a fairly civil site here. So he may not approve of what I'm about to write.

You are a supremely ignorant dipshit whose right to vote is a slap in the face of all the people who died for this country.

"I hope, for the Republican party's sake, that the damage done from attempting to elude the 9/11 investigations,"

Um, have you been reading the Able Danger news lately? It was Clinton, again.

" creating cause for war in Iraq,"

That was Hussain.

"making voting difficult for the poorest and least able,"

Um, ballots are design by county election officials. The ballots people are bitching about were all designed by DEMOCRAT election officials.

It was the Democrats who sent the thugs out to scare electionvolunteers last year.

" hiring inexperienced people to carry out the most important tasks of federal government,"

Huh? EVERY administration hires a wide variety of people. The Bush Administration has a much better cabinet, though, than Clinton ever did.

"and never, never, never following through after threatening to fire those people working for Bush who break laws (and that number is rapidly climbing) - I hope the next three years get better, but I don't think it will happen. The damage is too far along."

The damage to the Democraps.

"When the leadership is not leading, you get rid of them - and, no, I don't mean Pat Robertson style! Perhaps then, the party can begin to recover."

Teena, you are a very dim person. Bush IS a leader, probalby too much so for some peoples tastes.

" The money that would have been spent to put the plans in place for the convention should just be spent on rebuilding New Orleans and the lives of the people there."

You grossly ignorant little troll. Did you read the article at all?

THAT IS THE ENTIRE POINT!

Geoff-

I didn't see you debate any of Teena's points, but with the exception of saying it's all Clinton's fault. All you have done is call names. Is this how the right debates? Teena is pointing out criticisms that are widely held by those on the left, and according to the polls, an increasing number of folks from the middle.

Geoff, don't feed the trolls.

Posted by: Thorley Winston at September 6, 2005 11:45 AM

On the one hand - yes, let's try to be civil, here.

On the other - Teena's "points" were largely either red herrings that have been debunked for months or years, or things that are pretty much how government works in general, not unique to the Bush Administration.

"Is this how the right debates?"

Er, it's how angry people on both sides debate.

Is endless repetition of old red herrings "how the left debates?"

Teena has already been enlightened on many of those points many times and just keeps putting her fingers in her ears and humming...or something. Geoff, you weren't even nearly as uncivil as you could have been. Civil I might not be either, but Teena is one of the dumbest broads to post anywhere...and somehow simpering besides. All in all, it's maddening to read the crap she writes. Do people actually believe this kind of stuff? I mean really?! I can't stand it.

Great idea! Kinda like if Truman held the '48 DNC in Hiroshima.

Mitch,
It's time to turn on the 'Moonbat' bug light again. ZAP!

Many of you are simply missing my point. The mistakes have been made - now it's time to work on repairing the party. And I am not a fan of Clinton - where on earth did that assumption come from?
The opinion of many Americans, not just me, is that instead of taking care of the people of this nation, the Bush administration has dedicated itself to following through with the plans set forth by The Project for A New American Century. (They have website)This means that they have put into motion the necessary means to keep us a warring nation for many years to come while ignoring the plight of many of those who are unemployed, homeless, and without medical coverage because of many of the Bush administration's policies. No one has debunked these points as of yet. I just don't think this is a direction our country needs to go in. Putting a "shine" on the party by holding the RNC in New Orleans will be much too little, much too late.

How interesting...I guess my point won't be missed now! I'm not sure how the triple posting happened, but sorry if I did something to cause it.
