All About Nick

Eva Young asked "Why not mention Flash's story on this [on Shot In The Dark]?

Oh, good lord.

Because in between my bouts of blogging (5AM, my lunch break and occasionally in the evening) I do things like work, do stuff with my kids, socialize, eat, grab a workout and a swim, go on the occasional date...y'know, try to have a normal life. The blog is not a job, or an obsession, or a 24/7 hobby. Yes, I'm more productive than a lot of bloggers that DO treat it as an obsession (and vastly less productive than some obsessive bloggers I could name, naturally), but it's a fairly small part of my life.

However, Flash has done a great job of digging into this story, and has a lot of interesting internal paperwork that shows a little about life inside Janet Roberts' radio empire - stuff that tends to confirm what my own source told me about the situation.

As Flash and I have both noted, Janet Robert forbids her local hosts from talking about gun control and abortion - Robert is one of those rare pro-Second-Amendment, pro-life ultraliberals. Which is an odd stricture; those two topics are among the reddest meat on the talk radio platter. Roberts' internal memo (Flash got a copy from someone) says "It is the policy of JR Broadcasting that discussion around these issues tend to be more sensationalistic than substantial." Well, I'm sure at JR broadcasting they WOULD be, but if one can't deal with a little topical friction, one shouldn't be in the talk radio business.

Good for you, Mitch for finally posting on this. Clearly your blog is important to you. That's nothing to be ashamed of. There are very few bloggers who actually make a living on blogging. The prohibited topics also include gay marriage - which is another hot talk radio topic.

One of the weekend hosts wasn't aware of this until I brought it to his/her attention.

Your trackbacks are still down. Is that a bug or a feature of your site.

Mitch, it would really be nice if you'd link to my blog, Lloydletta, when you mention me.

I know you don't like either of my blogs, and that's fair enough, but it's general courtesy for bloggers to link to other bloggers when they mention them.

I was tipped to this story via an off topic comment in a post here at Shot in the Dark.
http://www.northernallianceradio.com/mt/mt-comments.cgi?entry_id=6243

They stated:

Off topic:

Anyone else notice that the Air(head) America-Minnesota website has an "updated" schedule listing of their "shows"?

NOOOOOOO monkeyboy! Nicky is GONE!

Wow...what did it take for him to be axed? 60 days?

With that I verfied the claim and made the initial post:

http://centrisity.blogspot.com/2005/08/no-more-nick.html

Soom after that, Mitch picked up on his own commenter and ran a parallel investigation, not realizing I was also pursuing the story. I updated my post with his comments later in the day.

I don't believe Mitch was slighting me in anyway. I knew he'd get around to stopping by Centrisity on this. There is too much red meat over there for him *laughing*

The funny thing is, when I was a J student at the U, the Libs would always argue that the media had to be conservatively biased because the owners of the media outlets were conservative, and they set the agenda. I used to argue that was false, because owners usually care more about making money than the silly things their hosts say on the air. Guess I was wrong. lol

Brian Jones, you were treated to a superb glimpse. Eva demands punctilious journalism from others, and then deals with innuendo and out of context drivel on her own sites. She is, however, a traffic whore par axelence.

Mitch used my comment - which I appreciate - but he could have linked to my blog. Others do link to Lloydletta's Nooz when I'm credited with a tip.

http://lloydletta.blogspot.com

But whatever....

I found it odd that Mitch mentioned Fraters piece on this as a source- which just quoted from the City Pages story, then asked whether commenter Nikki Carlson was someone else with the same initials....

I also think the CP Blotter should have given credit to Flash.

Good for Mitch for mentioning Flash's story though.

EY: I have, and will continue to make corrections on my sites when something is in error. I have no problem with people making mistakes - we all do. I do think it's ethical to correct them when they are made.

OZ if you have an issue with a specific post on one of my blogs, let me know which post, and point out what you think is in error. I do issue corrections - and appreciate people keeping me accountable. Instead you are just characterising my blogs, without giving a specific example.

I also don't claim to be a journalist. I'm a blogger. My blogs contain my opinions. It bothers me much more when the Star Tribune doesn't fact check, than when Mitch Berg doesn't fact check.

In my opinion, Flash's reporting on the reason Nick was fired was excellent, well-researched - and is a model for both main stream journalists - and bloggers to emulate.

"EY: I have, and will continue to make corrections on my sites when something is in error."

LOL!

Eva also isn't shy about making with the quick cover-up deletion when she is caught with her pants down around her ankles.

But hey, I'm not complaining....in fact if her sense of shame was given a freer hand she'd no doubt be a better person for it.

Maybe then Eva, you wouldn't stoop to begging for links (link to me..someone..anyone?) or stick them in uninvited..it's pathetic, really.

Swiftee, why did you remove the link to Moses's response to a recent POD post?

Eva,

I deleted that post, because I had a dumb grammatical typo, which I corrected and reposted.

"In my opinion, Flash's reporting on the reason Nick was fired was excellent, well-researched..."

...and an excellent counterpoint to the peekaboo innuendo and out of context tripe that Eva and company deal out at her blog.

Moses - that was your first post over there. Swiftee deleted your link:

I'll ante up to this little challenge.

(Link removed by owner..like I'd give this barking moonbat's site a boost)

EY: Now I didn't think bat's barked.... Seals do. So do Dogs.

Er...is there some reason you can't carry out off-topic personal conversations on someone ELSE's bandwidth?
