Hatch Job

"Trillin" at MN Lefty Liberal is taking its shots at Mike Hatch:

Ok, let me preface this; I don't like Mike Hatch. Well I do, but I like him as the Attorney General. He is harsh, he is abrasive, and he doesn't like to take chances.

Playing it safe doesn't work any more. Playing it safe has gotten us how many DFL governors in the last 4 elections? It cost us the State House, the US Congress, and the White House.

Most DFLers seem to be keyed in on Hatch as the Gov. candidate. However, most can't give you a reason beyond "œhe is the best we have" or "It's his turn.";

So there is the nomination, sitting out there for him to pick up like dry cleaning. Give the cashier your ticket, show some ID, and here is your nomination Mr. Hatch.

Someone on Hatch's staff has apparently taken an interest in Trillin's identity.

Read the whole thing - it covers several posts. When you have lefties angry at Hatch, the planets are truly crazy.

I think I fixed it.

Well, it was not my intent to stick it to the AG, just to point out my own preference that someone else run against Gov. Pawlenty. Apparently, one of his political staffers (or so I am told he is one of them by friends and have not been corrected by anyone in 5 days) decided to try and pull a fast one.

It is my hope that Mr. Martin was acting alone in this and that the AG did not know. What worries me is what Mr. Martin would do with my information should I have allowed him to get it, if he would have used the office of the AG to find out who I am, etc etc.

If you ask me, Attorney General hatch should fire him for such acts if they are occurring, as this is no better then what the US AG does.

Well, "Sticking it to" Hatch is probably a bit inelegant - but this blog has spent some time going over Hatch's shenanigans over the years. It'd be safe to say I like him neither has an AG nor as a potential governor.

So I'm with ya halfway.

Actually, I think it would be interesting to see what happens if someone credible (say, Dean Johnson or Mike Ciresi [who is laying really, really low if he wants to run for Senate]) were to challenge Hatch. I don't think Hatch has as clear a shot as some may think--I just don't think anyone credible actually is going to challenge Hatch, given how ensconsed he is as The Party's Choice (see Kennedy, Mark).

I know few people who are really fired up about Mike Hatch; for me, I haven't trusted him since he was the pro-life DFL gubernatorial candidate in 1994, after being the pro-choice DFL gubernatorial candidate in 1990. (I still voted for him in the primary, but only because of John Marty). That doesn't mean he might still not be the best candidate to take on TPaw--Hatch may be a sonofabitch, but he's compiled a halfway decent record as AG--but I, too, would like to see Hatch's campaign skills tested before the general election.
