So Far, But Yet So Close

Is there a more annoying commercial currently befouling the television screens of America than the demonically inspired ad for Burger King's Tender Crisp Bacon Cheddar Ranch? The bastages behind it have forever soiled The Big Rock Candy Mountain for me.

Actually, the first time I saw it I laughed uncontrollably. That, unfortunately, was 2000 viewings ago.

However, it's irrelevant; I have a hard time eating BK. I caught food poisoning at a (long-since-torn-down) BK in 1985, and to this day I usually feel nauseous driving past the stores.

And the notion of bacon, cheddar, and ranch dressing on a bun does nothing for me.

But I dig the ad.

In small doses.

I found myself wondering if they knew what "The Big Rock Candy Mountain" was actually about. I mean I can get behind a company that endorses alcoholism and laying around, but somehow I don't think that's BK.

I'm noticing that they are now only showing shortened versions of the commercial, with the part about the Dallas Cheerleaders giving shaves cut out, but the gay cowboys with the tumescing french fries in the background are still in.
