Duncan "Atrios" Black - an employee of Media Matters, a Soros-affiliated PR agency that shills for Democrats - said:
The cynicism and duplicity of the Bush Administration rarely fazes me. But I continue to be amazed by the GOP's ability to claim they "support the troops" while consistenly trying to screw them.
Bush Hates VeteransSounds drastic, right?Budget drastically increases their cost of healthcare.
Pfft. It's Atrios and Kos.
It's almost as if Michelle Malkin is responding to them:
But here's one thing I bet they won't mention: the Bush proposal is targeted at middle- and upper-income veterans whose disabilities aren't service-related. And here's another: Bush is asking for a total of $71 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs in the next fiscal year, up nearly 50 percent (from $48 billion) when he took office. The truth is an inconvenient thing, innit? I couldn't help noticing when I read the WSJ article that (I assume) set this off - all the veterans they quoted were retired generals and admirals, none of whom seemed to be combat commanders or even former brigade/division commanders. We're talking the guys behind the armor plated desks. Well, these are the guys who leave the military and usually slide right into a comfy job with the Beltway Bandits or hardware makers, and I say screw 'em. They need more benefits and perks like Bill Gates needs another 10% of the software market, except that Gates has worked for his cushy job and these guys are using political pressure to get theirs. I have no sympathy for them and their efforts. They should follow The Rock's advice: "Know your role...and shut the hell up!"

Posted by: Carson at February 8, 2005 08:50 AMKevin: I agree. I think it's interesting - Kerry's big supporters in the military were Clinton-era bureaucrat generals like Shalikashvili and Shelton. Similar constituency.
Carson: While you might, arguably, be right, the post was about Kos and Atrios (and Willis' and Pandagon's) propensity to shave off the last half of the story, the part that contradicts their "point".

A democrat would never have proposed this. It shows far too much intelligence and balance.
