I'd like to welcome our new addition; Clu, a little Golden Retriever puppy that my daughter got for her birthday.
Only nine weeks old, and she already knows more about military history than most Democrats.

1. Isn't there a blogosphere rule that when a new puppy is aquired, pics MUST be posted?
2. Odd you would choose to name her after actor Clu Gulager.
Posted by: James Ph at August 23, 2004 09:11 AMI second the call for pictures.
Posted by: Kris at August 23, 2004 09:54 AMCongrats, and good luck! Goldens are great dogs.

Must be because her eyes are open ;)
Yes dagnabbit, we want puppy pics!
Posted by: Thorley Winston at August 23, 2004 11:09 AMPlease do not insult the puppy by comparing her to most Democrats. Puppies grow up to be loyal dogs, which cannot be said of most Democrats, who seem never to grow up at all.

Good observation! Puppies and Dogs are definitely Republicans. Not only are they loyal, but they also WORK! Herding, law enforcement, military, etc.
Cats on the other hand, now they're Democrats. Sneaky, shiftless, dependent......
Posted by: James Ph. at August 23, 2004 05:55 PMMy cat is a Republican; independent, doesn't care what you think about her, and does the dirty, unsung work we need (mousing in the late fall and early winter) while the rest of the household is busy enjoying themselves.
In short - EVERYONE in my house is Republican.
Including the kids, so far.

Posted by: James Ph. at August 24, 2004 03:02 PMswishing through the rye grass
with thoughts of mouse-and-apple pie.
Tail balancing at half-mast.
...And the mouse police never sleeps ---
lying in the cherry tree.
Savage bed foot-warmer of purest feline ancestry.
Look out, little furry folk!
He's the all-night working cat.
Eats but one in every ten ---
leaves the others on the mat.
...And the mouse police never sleeps ---
waiting by the cellar door.
Window-box town crier;
birth and death registrar.
With claws that rake a furrow red ---
licensed to multilate.
From warm milk on a lazy day
to dawn patrol on hungry hate.
...No, the mouse police never sleeps ---
climbing on the ivy.
Windy roof-top weathercock.
Warm-blooded night on a cold tile.
