What will we do about powerful men with bottomless pockets who use their old-boy-network connections to gain disproportionate control of elected governments?
Who will speak against the culture of boundless, cynical corruption?

Too bad Soros doesn't have a dad with friends in the French version of the SEC.
If he did, he could get the investigation whitewashed and then run for President.
Posted by: Doug at June 15, 2006 08:30 AMDon't make fun, Doug. We both know how much respect Mitch has for the French legal system.
Posted by: angryclown at June 15, 2006 08:51 AMExpect a Michael Moore Documentary exposing the corruption behind the financer of MoveOn.org. Or not.
Posted by: Kermit at June 15, 2006 09:26 AMOne billionaire investor who gives money to the Democrats. One Democrat in Congress caught money in his freezer. One case of Dems caught falsifying registrations in Milwaukee in the 2004 election. You wingnuts sure do give these guys a workout!
Posted by: angryclown at June 15, 2006 09:39 AMThat's Clown's way of saying he's okay with corruption. . . when a Democrat does it.
Posted by: Ryan at June 15, 2006 09:46 AMThat's funny kermit. From the article Mitch links...
"The highest court in France on Wednesday rejected a bid by George Soros, the billionaire investor, to overturn a conviction for insider trading in a case dating back nearly 20 years, leaving the first blemish on his five-decade investing career.?
First blemish in a five decade investing career.
As opposed to the Bush dynasty who have had so many blemishs, their family portrait looks like a group photo taken at Tichilesti.
Posted by: Doug at June 15, 2006 09:56 AMIt's ironic that George Soros has become a champion of the Democratic Party. His fortune is derived from crushing the little guy, from fragile currencies to smaller investors, without respect for law or fair play. To a certain degree, it's just business. But in Soros case it was always predatory. There's a certain poetic justice now that he's all tangled up in France. He's a smart man, just not a very good one. That's why he's spent so much on his "humanitarian" image. Unlike, say, Warren Buffet, who doesn't have to spend a dime.
Posted by: Eracus at June 15, 2006 09:56 AM...and speaking of financiers of politically motivated smear campaigns and men who are smart - just not very good people, how is Richard Mellon Scaife these days?
Posted by: Doug at June 15, 2006 10:04 AMAll families have blemishes Doug. Even yours. The Bushes don't have a long trail of dead and imprisoned aquaintences, business partners, and political rivals. Unlike the guy that served between them.
Posted by: Kermit at June 15, 2006 10:20 AMYeah Doug. Don't you know Hilary whacked Vince Foster?
Heehee, gotta love wingnuts!
Posted by: angryclown at June 15, 2006 10:50 AMNo, it was Chelsea. They started her training early.
Posted by: Kermit at June 15, 2006 11:00 AMany proof to back this up, "gain disproportionate control of elected governments?"
apparently helping democracy gain a foothold in eastern europe was a bad thing?
Posted by: Fulcrum at June 15, 2006 11:17 AMGeez, Fulcrum. If you're not killing people how can you be spreading democracy?
Posted by: angryclown at June 15, 2006 11:28 AMGee, spreading democracy? Shouldn't Soros have been looking for terrorists instead?
See, I can do it too. Just make up senseless crap that sounds good but really goes nowhere.
Posted by: JonM in MN at June 15, 2006 03:31 PMsee JohM... that's where you're wrong... your senceless crap didn't actually sound good AND, it went nowhere.

Posted by: Doug at June 15, 2006 09:07 PMI didn't do that.. I swear to god
Posted by: Doug at June 15, 2006 09:09 PMGeez Jon, if your not writing snarky posts filled with circular logic...oh, never mind.
