Attention, Party People (Jamestown High School Edition)
The following is addressed to my classmates from the Jamestown (North Dakota) High School Class of 1981.
The artist formerly known as Ruth Newman, and the other artist eternally known as Krueg, are putting together a 25th reunion this summer.
(Note to non-JHS people: A 25th reunion is unheard of at our old high school. Reunions come in ten year increments, a tradition as solid as the 70-foot-tall cement buffalo that overlooks the city, an interval handed down on Mount Sinai as the long-lost 11th Commandment - or so it's believed in Jamestown, ND. To have a reunion at a more-frequent interval will be regarded like putting mole sauce on lutefisk, or making low-fat Fleischkuechle. This is, as Johnny Carson would have called it, "Weird, Wild Stuff". But I dig it, and in any case, I digress).
Anyway, TAFKARN notes that the plan, currently, is as follows:
Friday June 30 - informal Bon Fire - somewhere- TBDAs luck has it, I'll be in Jamestown that week anyway, so everyone is in luck. Except those of you who really didn't like me much, and you know who you are.

I also hereby open the floor to nominations (specific JND locations) for the informal bonfire. I should put certain former teachers' living rooms off limits, just to be safe...

UPDATE: Commenter Doug caught me. The Buffalo isn't 70 feet tall. It's a little under 30 feet.
But if you climb through its mouth, it leads you to a tunnel that runs down the right foreleg to a tunnel that leads you underground to a formerly-secret chamber that was used as a top-secret government emergency headquarters. In 1962, Allen Dulles met with Andrey Gromyko in that room to help resolve the Cuban Missile Crisis. After the Cold War, the room served variously as a teen center, holding facility for terror suspects, and today is a coffee shop, "Buffalo Mouth Coffee", one of Jamestown's finer coffee joints.

My high school class (Winona SHS, '81) doing the same thing this year, although all they're doing is having a dinner- I probably won't be able to make it. Per RBMN's suggestion, I'll request that lefse be added to the menu...

The Buffalo - our 94 foot tall symbol of power and perseverence, all 7,000 tons of him - is the same thing, only it's for the exclusive club that is *my graduating class from high school*. One of which you are not.

I'm fully aware of that Mitch and I was simply observing how certain Republican types use exageration and inside jokes to further their agenda - in your case your reunion.

I would have thought you would have read the sarchasm in my Piggy Wiggle and Baron von Mitchhausen comment but I forgot, you can occasinally suffer from overseriousism.
BTW, we have our own 70 foot buffalo where I grew up only it was a 20 foot green Citgo dinosaur. Every homecomming, it would disappear from the gas station and wind up in some unsuspecting persons front yard.
Since my own 25 year is comming up, I'm already arranging for a hefty bolt cutter and a large bed pickup truck.

You can, if you're inclined, look across the valley and be level with the top of the Peavey Grain Elevator, by far the city's tallest building.
The tallest inhabited floor, of course, is either the third floor of either the current hospital or the old one that is used as a senior "high rise" (figured you'd get a kick out of that).
There is little need for tall buildings in Jamestown, ND, because - ahem - LAND IS EVERYWHERE. There's a lot more land than people. Why build up, when there's all the "out" you can use?
