Carry Permit Holder Saves Cop

From Louisiana, yet another case of a cop's life being saved by a n armed citizen.

Scenario: Cop stops pulls over a motorist who breaks into a funeral procession. Motorist attacks cop. Armed, legally permitted citizen responds:

Perry Stevens fired four shots into Temple's torso. Officer Harrison had already fired one shot into Temple's abdomen. With Temple still struggling with the officer, Perry continued to advance toward the scuffle.

"He again orders Mr. Temple to stop what he was doing and get off the officer. Those commands are ignored and he fires a fifth shot and that hits his head. The incident is over with, and as you know, Mr. Temple is dead."

Police are calling the shooting death justified. Perry Stevens has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Col. Phares would not give out any more details relating to the shooting. Both Phares and Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff stopped short of crediting Stevens with saving the officer's life. LeDuff says the entire incident is unfortunate.

A pack, not a herd.

Unfortunate? Well, for the former Mr. Temple, certainly.

Three cheers for Perry Stevens!

Gee, how big is this HERD, you say "yet another example", what are the stats on numbers of these kinds of activities?

Regarding Herd/Pack.. yeah, I know soooo many people who are "packing" that are secure personality types.

Interesting comment there, PB. I also know many people who are packing that are secure personality types. As long as we are throwing out statistics, how about you documenting soooooo many parts of the country that turned into Dodge City with all the residents shooting each other over minor disagreements. I always hear about them when a state tries to pass a carry law, so you must have soooooo many to chose from.

Care to narrow things down a bit?

In 23 years, we've gone from 8 to 37 states with shall carry laws. Quick - how many have repealed them?

"Regarding Herd/Pack.. yeah, I know soooo many people who are "packing" that are secure personality types."

Well, given that Kates and Harris found that gun owners tend to be better educated, more satisfied with their careers, and less tolerant of police brutality than non-gun-owners, perhaps it says more about the kind of people who find their way into contct with you than about carry permit holders in general.

Another way of saying "PB's anecdotal opinion isn't dispositive".

Let us know if you find a story making clear whether the dead guy was, you know, armed. Cause that would be an interesting detail to know. Looks like the cops are keeping a tight lid on information on this case for some reason.

As for the cop, the Baton Rouge Advocate reports that he'd Cheneyed an innocent bystander in a convenience store robbery awhile ago:

"While working for the Sheriff’s Office, Harrison accidentally shot a customer in 1995 when two men robbed a convenience store in Baker, The Advocate has reported. No charges were filed against Harrison, Clerk of Court records show. "

Maybe he didn't take that awesome NRA gun safety course you gun nuts are always on about.
