Moment of Agreement

Oddly, for a couple of rock-ribbed conservatives, JB Doubtless (of Fraters Libertas and occasionally Nihilist) and I disagree about a thing or two. Especially where it comes to music and pop culture in general. I aspire to the cultural omnipathy that the likes of Jefferson, Franklin, Adams and the other classical liberals revered; JB thinks Archie Bunker was a friggin' commie libertine.

But even in the world of music, we can find some common cause; the music of Allison Krause:

I just heard a song called "A Reason For It All" by Allision [sic] Krause and Union Station during lunch and was blown away by it's beauty.
Krause is an amazing talent, perhaps the only woman in country that could ever wrench my heart away from Emmylou Harris, Kathy Mattea, Dolly Parton or Holly Dunn.

And Union Station's not too shabby as a band, either.

So JB? When you're done lecturing me about the real state of the neighborhood I've lived in for a dozen years, let me be the first to day; good call.

She has among the sweetest voices I've ever heard.

Agreed. She has the best female voice I've ever heard, bar none... she is one person who can make bluegrass music appealing to me. Her Whiskey Lullaby duet with Brad Paisley, and her work on the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack are top notch also...

This is like the British and the Germans emerging from their trenches for a Christmas truce back in the Great War.

If you ever get a chance to see Alison Krauss in concert, I highly recommend it. I saw her with Union Station about a month ago at Northrup and I saw her in Texas about 2 years ago - great shows. She's much funnier than you'd think, as she chats to/with the crowd in between songs. She is far from flashy (which to me, is refreshing), but she knows how to entertain an audience.

I've got other music by Krauss in my collection. I went looking for the song at iTunes to listen to a snippet. Nice. FWIW, the song title is "There is a Reason" on the CD "So Long So Wrong."

Oh, Alison Krauss...they say that Charlotte Church has the "voice of an angel"-no, that has got to be Alison Krauss without a doubt.

Off the subject, but something for some of the people that drive down in the "Cities" area (they would do it up here, too...we have our share of moronic drivers for sure), but...

Our family came to the Cities this weekend to attend the funeral of my husbands aunt, uncle and cousin who were killed in a plane crash in southern MN Sunday night. The funeral (a very large one) was held in Eden Prairie and the funeral procession started there and ended at Hillside Cemetary in NE Minneapolis. What a loooong ride. About 30-40 cars made up the procession led by THREE hearses (hard to miss) and we all had our blinkers on and flags on the vehicles along with law enforcement going ahead to stop traffic at intersections and some points on the interstates (they did a wonderful job). However, to the people that merged in and out of a funeral procession I have got to say "What the hell is the matter with you?!!". It's one thing to have to maybe cut in to get over to another lane, but some went back and forth, back and forth! It's simply mind-boggling. There-had my say. Thanks. Not that any of Mitch's readers would be that rude, but....
