Five Weird Things

Sheila's got another meme (via Joan) that I have to try.

How does it go? Just explain five weird things about yourself.

I think I can find five:

  1. When I notice I've stepped on a crack in the sidewalk with one foot, I'm compelled to step on the next one with the other foot.
  2. If my mind isn't frenetically occupied with other stuff, I find myself making words out of the initials of any sentence I'm hearing or saying (Immifowos, ifmmwootioasihos!); over the years, this habit has developed its own syntax and grammar; occasionally, I'll interpret passages of TV or radio shows into this "language" in real-time, like one of those instant interpreters at the UN (Oty, thhdiosag; oiipot,ors,itlirt,l1otiiatUN!)
  3. If I am walking down the sidewalk and notice two expansion joints crossing in a "T" shape, and I'm not walking with someone, I'm compelled to try to spit right at the junction. I've been doing it so long, I've actually gotten to the point where I'll hit it most of the time.
  4. I love fruit in all its many forms - but fruit bagels are just wrong.
  5. When I see plane taking off, I instantly say a silent prayer that everyone on board gets where they're going. Haven't had one of them crash yet.
Five is probably plenty.

My late dad, myself and my son all (unbeknownst to each other until I brought it up once) count words in either the sentences we speak or the other person does...or thoughts in our heads, song lyrics, whatever....on either the fingers of one or both hands or heel to toe on both feet. And it has to come out even or you add or subtract a word...I think it's an obsessive-compulsive thing. Maybe your initials & words deal is too!

The sidwalk crack thing...you just shouldn't step on them, but I suppose if you've stepped on one, better to even it out by hitting them all...BTW, have you ever watched Monk (it's good)?

#2 blows my mind. I have no idea what it all means but it blows my mind.

And yeah. No fruit in bagels.

Red: 2bmm. Ihniwiambibmm.

And I have no idea what it means, either. It started at a time in my life when my brain was very underutilized. I don't do it as much now, but 12-15 years ago, I caught myself doing it a lot...

Colleen: I *love* Monk.

The odd thing, perhaps, is that I'm so uncompulsive in every other area of my life. I'm not a neat freak, my socks are rarely sorted.

OK, 2-5 are just plain nutzo and indicative of much deeper problems, but it scares me that we both share that first addiction to pattern symmetry.

I love #2! That's amazing. Same for me on #5.
