Dalai Lama Opens Can of Whoopass

Well, not exactly. But as First Ringer notes, the Dalai Lama came out in support of the Just War doctrine at an appearance last week:

The allied victory in World War II "saved Western civilization," and conflicts fought in Korea and Vietnam were honorable from a moral standpoint, the 14th Dalai Lama said in answer to questions.

But he ruled out armed struggle for Tibet's grievances with the Chinese government.

"In the case of Tibet versus China, violence is almost like suicide," the Dalai Lama said. "If violence, then bloodshed. Bloodshed means more casualties among the Chinese and, again, more hatred."...Asked about the US-led invasion of
Iraq, he said it would take a few years before it becomes clear whether the US military action was the right course of action.

The First Ringer added:
More than a few of the campus liberals in attendance probably left feeling like their heads had just been on a swivel after hearing the living icon of peaceful resolution not only say that some wars could be moral but that Korea and Vietnam were as well. For many, about the only thing that could have made such a question and answer session worse is if the Dalai Lama whipped out a cowboy hat and said ”bring it on” in reference to Iraq.
Read both articles.

Interesteng that the Dali Lema hasn't denounced Michele Bachmann.

Also interesting that it was First Ringer, not the Dalai Lama who interpreted his response as "whipped out a cowboy hat and said "bring it on".

I doubt seriously there are many liberals who dispute the moral propriety of WWII, or even Korea for that matter. Let's also remember it was the Republicans who strongly resisted our invovlement in WW2. Regardless, there were actions by the US in Korea that were "questionable," such is the case in war. As for Vietnam, I might have to respectfully disagree with the Lama here, but I'm sure that the Right has never disagreed with him, right Mitch? Oh... are we supposed to be embarrased by the fact that we disagreed with him, why exactly? Is he infalible? Are we? Are you?

Vietnam had some moral issues, first and foremost, it was a US backed UN CONTRIVANCE, funny how the UN is useful to you when you want it to be, huh? It took a nation that had never been separated and forced a government of our chosing on it. Whether that was moral I suppose has some argument on either side, but it was damned stupid. Now we in fact, as was S. Vietnam, were signatories to SEATO, and so, had an internation obligation (you remember those don't you Mitch, you know, treaties and interational agreements that this President has routinely pissed all over?) to live up to, and so again, there is an argument for morality. On the other hand, our pretext for involvement was probably a put-up job (Gulf of Tonkin), and so again, it may well have been at least immoral from the standpoint of having the full faith and approval of the US Citizenry.. but then again, starting a war on a false pretext is hardly anything unique for a conservative, power-mad, Texan.

That's gotta be a first even for you, PB -- describing LBJ, a liberal Democrat, as a conservative, power-mad Texan. Your logic is as flawed as your history, producing nothing else than just more spew, hurl and chuck of your favorite blind hatred in a world you cannot comprehend let alone understand. You have no idea whatsoever what you are talking about. You are just making stuff up again, such that your post, to the extent it is decipherable at all, is unworthy of any further response.

Have a nice day.
